Why SMS messages are not sent from Megafon - reasons and what to do?

Brief introduction

Problems on the operator’s side have been very rare in recent years. This is due to the accelerated improvement of equipment, constant diagnostics and repairs.

Communication fails only on major holidays, during mass events - the reason lies in the congestion of the network. Each mobile tower accepts a limited number of calls, but when everyone within a radius of several kilometers tries to make a call every second, a serious problem arises.

Fortunately, everything gets better within 30 minutes - the flow weakens, returning the number of outgoing calls to the tower’s capacity. Such incidents most often occur on New Year's Eve, Victory Day, Christmas and other significant dates.

Incorrectness on the user's side is the most popular explanation for an unsuccessful attempt to send an SMS message. The reason for incorrect settings is the newness of the phone, illiteracy of the user, or failures in the device’s OS.

To resolve each of the difficulties, you can use our short instructions. They will be relevant for all large operators - MTS, Beeline, Tele2, Megafon.

When sending a message, errors 50, 28, 38 often appear

How to get more information about the cause of the error

We now know what error 500 means. When she is no longer such a mysterious character, it’s not scary to dig deeper - learn to determine the cause of the error. In some cases, you can do this yourself, so you don’t need to seek help from a specialized specialist.

The error display varies. Its appearance depends on what caused it.

The most common causes of a 500 error can be recognized by the text of the error or the appearance of the page.

  1. Internal Server Error message indicates that there are problems with the .htaccess (for example, incorrect file configuration is to blame). To make sure that .htaccess is the root of the problem, the following trick will help: rename the .htaccess file, adding a unit at the end of the name. This can be done using an FTP client (for example, FileZilla) or a file manager on your hosting (Timeweb has one, it’s quite convenient to work with). After the change, check the site's availability. If the error is no longer observed, you have found the cause.
  2. HTTP ERROR 500 message or a blank page indicates problems with the site scripts. In the case of a blank page, it is worth considering that the absence of site content does not always indicate an internal server error 500.

Let's find out what's behind the blank page by turning to the developer tools. This browser panel allows you to get information about errors and other data (page loading time, html elements, etc.).

How to open the developer panel

  • Press the F12 key (the method is relevant for most browsers on Windows). Use the keyboard shortcut Cmd+Opt+J if you're using Google Chrome on macOS. Or use the combination Cmd+Opt+C in the case of Safari on macOS (but first enable the “Development Menu” in the “Settings” -> “Advanced” section). You can also open developer tools by right-clicking anywhere on the web page and selecting “View Code” from the context menu.
  • Open the Network tab and look at the number in the Status field. The 500 error response code is the corresponding number.

More detailed diagnostics can be carried out using logs.

In simple words: a log is a log that records information about errors, requests to the server, connections to the server, actions with files, etc.

As you can see, a lot of data is recorded in the logs, so they are divided by type. For information about our error, you can refer to the error logs (error_log). Typically, such logs are provided by the support service of the hosting on which the site is hosted. In Timeweb, you can enable logging and order the necessary data in the control panel. The article “Reading Logs” will help you understand the received logs.

Error 50 when sending SMS

If, when you try to send an SMS message, a notification containing the definition “error.50” pops up, there are two options for fixing it.

First, try inserting a different SIM card into your smartphone. If the notification disappears, contact the support service or the mobile operator’s office for diagnostics, configuration, or replacement of your own card. For more information about such a replacement, see your operator’s website (MTS, TELE2, Megafon, Beeline).

The second is a little simpler, but requires full adherence to the instructions:

  • Go to the “SMS/SMS” tab on the main screen of the phone menu.
  • Find the opening items in the upper right corner of the screen. Most often they are implemented by three vertical points.
  • Select the “Settings” column.
  • We look for the item “SMS Center / SMS Center”, open it.

Next, you should find out the SMS Center number of your own mobile operator. If it matches, try to find out the alternative one and try to paste it into the appropriate window. If error 50 persists when sending SMS, contact your telecom operator's office or hotline.

Example of numbers of the cellular company Megafon (we try each):

  • +79262909090;
  • +79262909080.

If you can't fix the error yourself

As a rule, the above manipulations help fix error 38 yourself. If all the methods have already been tried, you should find out what is causing the problem, the phone or the SIM card? The easiest way to check a SIM card is to replace it with another one. If this is the case, messages from the other card will be sent without failure. In this case, you should contact the MTS operator salon to correct the problem or replace the damaged card.

If there is a problem with the device, messages will not be sent from the verification SIM card either. In this case, you should contact the salon where you purchased the mobile phone and ask the manager to check the settings.

Error 28 when sending SMS

This failure most often occurs in people who have recently moved from one region to another.

The idea is simple - if you have a package of free SMS messages, they are spent only on sending them to the subscriber in the corresponding region.

In simple terms, you became a Tele2 subscriber in Moscow, but later moved to St. Petersburg. The message package is not distributed in St. Petersburg; it is subject to separate pricing, which causes a notification with error 28 when sending SMS. This means you simply do not have enough funds to send a message.

The solution is to contact your operator's mobile phone store with a description of the problem or top up your balance with a certain amount.

It is possible to switch the region; you can also choose a tariff plan with a package of messages throughout Russia without changing the cost of sending.

Where and when can you encounter error 500?

You can see the error on any web resource, browser and device. It is not due to a lack of Internet connection, an outdated version of the operating system or browser. Additionally, this error does not indicate that the site does not exist or is no longer operational.

Error 500 indicates that the server cannot process the request to the site on the page you are on. However, the browser cannot tell you exactly what went wrong.

The error may appear in different ways. Here's an example:

If you decide to buy something from your favorite online store, but see a 500 error on the site, don’t be too upset - it only informs you that you need to wait until it is fixed.

If an error appears on your website, you need to fix it as soon as possible. Next I will tell you how this can be done.

Error 38 when sending a message

Such a failure is not uncommon for those who often send messages to numbers of other mobile operators. A simple example: a Megafon subscriber is trying to send a message to the owner of an MTS SIM card. A failure may also mean a lack of funds in the account.

In this case, the “treatment” also does not contain complex manipulations:

  • Go to the “SMS/SMS” item in the phone menu.
  • Select the “Settings” column (sliding menu in the upper right corner of the screen).
  • We look for the item “Response via the same channel” and uncheck it.

After this, we reboot the device, it is possible to remove the SIM card and reinsert it.

Reasons for the error

So, a 500 error occurs when the server is unable to process a request to the site. Because of this, users cannot access the site, and search engines cannot fully work with it. Clearly the error needs to be fixed. First of all, you need to find the problem.

The main reason for the 500 error could be:

  1. The syntax of the .htaccess file is incorrect . htaccess is a file in which you can set settings for working with the Apache web server and make changes to the operation of the site (manage various redirections, file access rights, PHP options, set your own error pages, etc.). You can learn more about the .htaccess file in the article “Creating and Configuring .htaccess”.
  2. Errors in site scripts , that is, scripts created to automatically perform tasks or to expand the functionality of the site.
  3. Lack of RAM when executing the script.
  4. Errors in the code of the CMS, site content management system. In 80% of cases, conflicting plugins are to blame.

Mobile device settings

Megafon SMS messages won't go away? To find out whether the smartphone is to blame for the problem, you should do the following:

  • Move the SIM card to another device;
  • Try sending again;
  • If everything went well, then the problem is in your device.

To “treat” the problem you need to:

  • Find instructions for your smartphone;
  • Set the settings according to the data given in the manual.

Finally, we note that difficulties with data transmission may be due to lack of coverage. Make sure that you are within the network coverage area - this will be indicated by the presence of several bars at the top of the phone next to the operator's name. Try restarting your smartphone to get rid of the network failure.

Now you know why SMS messages from Megafon are not sent and how you can fix this unpleasant problem in a few clicks.

Fixing a 500 server error on your own website

A 500 internal server error on your own site requires a completely different approach. As we mentioned above, most of the 500 errors are server-side errors, which is probably your problem to fix if this is your site.

There are many reasons why your site may be showing a 500 error to users, here are the most common:

  • Permissions error. In most cases, the 500 Internal Server Error is due to incorrect permission for one or more files or folders. In most cases, incorrect resolution happens on PHP and on CGI. Typically these should be set to 0755 (-rwxr-xr-x).
  • PHP timeout. If your script is connecting to external resources and timing out those resources can result in an HTTP 500 error. Timeout rules or better error handling in your script should help if this is the cause of the 500 error.
  • Coding error in .htaccess. Although it's not that common, make sure your site's .htaccess file is structured correctly.

Android or IOS system failure

The phone is not immune to technical failures and errors. There are an infinite number of reasons: conflicting applications, virus infections, filling up of RAM. If you have several applications running at the same time, and your phone is weak, then the Messages system application may simply not have enough RAM to work. In such cases, it is not in vain that you are recommended to Restart your smartphone. Otherwise, install any free antivirus and disable installation from unknown sources.

Wrong number

There can be many reasons why SMS messages are not sent from Megafon. One of them is error 50 when sending SMS to Megafon, which means that:

  • The parameters for entering the subscriber number are incorrect;
  • The message center number is not saved in the phone or is entered incorrectly.

To resolve this error, you must:

  • Check whether the recipient's number is entered correctly. Perhaps you forgot to indicate the code “+7” or “8” or wrote down the sequence of numbers incorrectly.

If the reason lies in the message center data:

  • Open the message settings menu;
  • Select the section “Advanced” - “SMS”
  • Please enter the correct center number. For Android owners the information is relevant +79262909090

iPhone owners should do the following:

  • Dial the code *#5005*7672# on the keyboard to find out the number;
  • Enter the command *5005*7672*+79262909090# to change the data to the correct ones;
  • Set the format to “Text” and the maximum delivery time.

Another reason lies in error 21, which also means incorrect input parameters or the inability of the mobile subscriber to receive messages.

Let's figure out why SMS is not yet sent from the phone to Megafon, if codes 50 and 21 have been corrected.

How could you see the 500 error

The 500 Internal Server Error message can appear in any number of ways because each website is allowed to customize the message.

Here are some common names for the HTTP 500 error:

  • 500 - internal server error
  • HTTP 500 - internal server error
  • Temporary error (500)
  • Internal Server Error
  • Internal HTTP Error 500
  • Error 500
  • HTTP Error 500
  • 500. This is a server error

Since the website you are visiting generates a 500 server error, it can be seen in any browser on any operating system, even on your smartphone.

Most of the time, just like web pages, the internet browser window displays a 500 Internal Server Error.

No money in account

Error 38 is a lack of funds on the user’s balance necessary for sending.

  • Check the balance status;
  • Top up your account with the required amount;
  • Try again.

By the way, if you don’t have the opportunity to top up your balance in the near future, but have access to the Internet, you can send a free SMS using the Megafon online service.

Why doesn't Megafon send SMS if you have deposited money into your balance? Perhaps the reason lies in the restrictions on the smartphone. Error 38 may indicate a failure in the communication channels. Try the following:

  • Enter your smartphone settings;
  • Find the item “Messages”;
  • Remove o.

Please note that these instructions are not relevant for all smartphones!

What else can be done to ensure that information is sent correctly to another subscriber?

Why can't I send SMS from my Megafon phone? What to do?

Modern users communicate more often through social networks and instant messengers. Yet regular text messages are still relevant. And when the client is faced with the situation that Megafon SMS messages are not sent, it is necessary to correct the problem. It is worth understanding why the failure occurs and how to fix it.

  1. For what reasons are messages not sent?
  2. Lack of money on SIM card
  3. There is a ban on messages
  4. Message center settings are lost
  5. The subscriber number is entered incorrectly
  6. Gadget settings are lost
  7. Your phone doesn't have enough memory

How to resolve the error

Now let's talk about how to fix error 500. Let's return to the popular causes of this problem and consider the most effective solutions.

Errors in the .htaccess file

This file has a fairly strict syntax, so incorrectly written directives (commands) can lead to an error. Try removing the most recently added commands one by one and check the site. You can also find the problematic directive using error logs (via the same developer tools in the browser). An error in a directive is usually indicated by the phrase “Invalid command” . You can find information on the correct spelling of the directive or how to correct errors in .htaccess on the Internet. There is no need to search for why the server is giving error 500, just enter the name of the required command or the error text from the logs into the search bar.

Errors in site scripts

The script doesn't run

This usually happens when there is an error in the script or a function that is not executing. To successfully run the script, the function must be correctly written, supported by the server and executed from the version of PHP used. There are situations where a feature is not compatible with certain versions of PHP. You can get more detailed information about a particular function on the Internet.

Not enough RAM

If you see the “Allowed memory size” error in the logs, you should optimize the script to eliminate error 500. You can use special extensions to analyze the performance of the script or seek help from a specialist who will work on its optimization.

If your site is hosted on a separate physical or virtual server, you can try increasing the maximum RAM usage per process (memory_limit). On shared hosting, this parameter usually does not change, but it is possible to buy more powerful hosting.

Errors in CMS

If the CMS code contains incorrect syntax, it can break the site. In this case, the logs will inform you of error 500 with the text “PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected.” This happens when a plugin (or theme used in a CMS, but less often) does not work correctly or there are errors in the code. An error can be made accidentally, or occur when updating a plugin or CMS version.

When reading the logs, pay attention to the path that follows the error message, as it may point to a problematic piece of code or plugin. If the problem is with the plugin, to restore the site, temporarily rename the folder in which it is located. Try updating the plugin or rolling it back to the previous version. If the situation cannot be corrected, the extension should be abandoned or replaced with an analogue.

Also, in most cases, CMS support helps solve such problems.

Good luck!
