But they don’t care: Kyivstar is transferring subscribers to expensive packages
Ukrainians are massively indignant - one of the country's largest mobile operators, Kyivstar, is forcibly transferring them to more expensive unlimited tariff plans. Formally, the company offers people an alternative. And only if they do not take any action, they are automatically connected to the new conditions automatically. In fact, subscribers have practically no equal opportunities under the terms of the transition. And Kyivstar is doing everything to collect more money from everyone.
Don't keep promises
People have many reasons to complain about the operator’s behavior. First of all, people complain about total deception on the part of Kyivstar regarding the timing of the transition to the new tariff. On its own website, the company writes that due to the closure of a number of outdated tariff plans, from May 15 to July 15, subscribers will be transferred to the “Maximum Unlimited” package for 155 UAH. At the same time, they clarify that the exact transition date will be sent to each person individually.
Ukrkomnadzor: Facebook can be disabled in Ukraine and give a free hand to bank fraudsters
Here Kyivstar’s words and deeds do not diverge. Subscribers actually receive SMS messages indicating when the tariff plan will change automatically. But no one even thinks about observing these time limits.
“Your tariff will close from 07/05 to 07/15. Choose a new one yourself at 477*1 or wait for the auto-change to “Maximum Unlim”. I received this message on June 28. It states that the tariff will be closed until July 15. My tariff plan according to the terms of payment and payment terms last month was supposed to be valid until 11.07. Why did you close my tariff plan earlier, without giving me time to decide on a new tariff plan?” asks subscriber Oksana on the official Kyivstar support forum on July 5.
Simply put, the company not only changed the tariff plan 10 days earlier than it promised the subscriber via SMS, but also did not take away a week of use of a fully working and paid package of services.
They charge money for self-will
But Roman complains on his Facebook page that, contrary to the operator’s assurances, changing the tariff to any other than the one recommended by Kyivstar itself is not at all free, as Kyivstar indicates on its website. And he attaches a screenshot of that very promise to the angry post.
4G in the new range - what Ukrainian subscribers will get
In fact, all subscribers claim that it is impossible to change the tariff after automatic transfer for free. Any change, with rare exceptions, will cost the user 20 hryvnia. Worse, when switching to a reduced tariff, the subscriber’s money disappears from his account during the validity period of the old plan.
“Yesterday they finally replaced it - with one for which the monthly subscription fee is 45 UAH higher. Moreover, it includes those services that I do not need. This is despite the fact that there were 12 days left before the expiration date of the previous package. It is impossible to contact live operators at Kyivstar, so I switched to another package, which seemed more suitable to me. The Kyivstar representative explained that if I had agreed to that more expensive recommended package, I would not have lost the money from the previous one for 12 days,” writes another Kyivstar subscriber Tatyana on her Facebook page.
And he adds that the operator does not provide compensation for such tricks. That is, in fact, the subscriber simply does not have a selection procedure that is equal in price. I don’t agree with the company’s proposal - pay, the girl sums up.
Everything is calculated
Finally, subscribers are surprised that they are offered perhaps the most expensive “Maximum Unlim” package. The company itself explains this simply: the system automatically selects the most suitable tariff plan for each subscriber. To do this, it analyzes the client’s profile regarding the type and volume of services used.
Generosity or deception - why mobile operators turn on free instant messengers when roaming
But the result of such a calculation always turns out to be the same - people are offered exactly “Maximum Unlimited” for 155 UAH. So, on the Kyivstar support forum, subscriber Anna is surprised how for a tariff for 95 UAH. you can choose the optimal tariff for 60 UAH. expensive? In addition, under the new conditions, the subscription fee is charged not once a month, as before, but every 4 weeks. So, as a result, the subscriber pays for 13 months of communication services per year.
But even users who recently paid 110 UAH. for a monthly package of services they are surprised at Kyivstar’s logic and algorithms. After all, until now they had enough of unlimited calls on the network, 3 GB of Internet traffic and 50 minutes to other people’s networks. And in the new, most “suitable” package, they are offered unlimited Internet and online communication, as well as 6 times more minutes for calls to other operators.
And this despite the fact that, under current conditions, it would be more logical for such subscribers to offer the “Unlim Video” tariff for 95 UAH. There are the same unlimited calls within the network and the Internet, and 155 minutes to other people’s numbers. Or even an even cheaper package for 75 UAH. But, apparently, Kyivstar does not want its subscribers to receive the same list of services for less money. And if they show obstinacy, they demand additional payment for freedom of choice.
In 2021, Ukrainians will finally be freed from “mobile slavery”
What does Kyivstar say?
Kyivstar does not see any risks in this approach. The company's press service told us that they do not expect an outflow of subscribers, because the proposal for a new tariff was made after a thorough analysis of the preferences and habits of each client. And they explain how to avoid additional expenses.
In 2021, Ukrainians will finally be freed from “mobile slavery”
“If the conditions in the proposed tariff are not suitable for some subscribers, they can independently choose another current Kyivstar offer and switch to new conditions. Kyivstar gives all its subscribers the opportunity, when they start using the operator’s services, to independently change their tariff plan; the first such change is free. Subsequent shifts are according to the operator’s tariffs.
If the subscriber affected by the changes previously changed his tariff independently and free of charge, the next transitions will cost according to the current tariffs. But, please note, after the automatic change of the tariff plan, such subscribers will have the opportunity to change it again and for free,” the company’s press service responded in response to a request from UBR.ua.
And they added that all subscribers were warned more than a week in advance, indicating that changes to their numbers would take place from July 5 to July 15. As for writing off unused items in the previous package, it acknowledges that it operates within the established framework.
In addition, they say at Kyivstar, all changes are absolutely legal.
Kyivstar made good money on the Internet, despite the costs of 3G
“Tariffs for services that are not subject to government regulation are set by operators independently and can be changed by them in the manner prescribed by law. The corresponding right is enshrined in the Law of Ukraine “On Telecommunications” and the “Rules for the provision and receipt of telecommunication services” (approved by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, dated April 11, 2012 N 295),” the Kyivstar press service summarized.

How to switch to Kyivstar Contract?
To switch to the Kyivstar Contract, you need to order the so-called migration service. To do this, you need to collect the required package of documents and contact the nearest Kyivstar store or office. An individual simply needs to take with him a civil passport and TIN (or a foreign passport and copies of a civil passport with TIN). For a legal entity, a different list of papers is provided, which can be viewed on the operator’s official website.

Cheapest fare conditions
Kyivstar conversations region 2 has undergone several changes, including price increases, and currently costs 35 hryvnia per month.
The first option cost 20 hryvnia per month. For this amount, unlimited communication within the network is provided, as well as the first three months of 30 minutes per month for calls to other mobile operators in Ukraine (check *118#). The cost of Internet for every 50 MB will be 5 UAH; if you don’t use it, you don’t pay anything. When sending an SMS, 1 hryvnia is withdrawn and 50 messages are credited until the end of the day. If you call a Lifecell or Vodafone number when the minutes are up, it will cost 60 kopecks for each minute.
The analogue of this package is unlimited calls plus
Please note that the tariff is regional and is valid in some regions and territorial areas: Volyn, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Transcarpathian, Zaporozhye, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovograd, Luhansk, Lviv, Nikolaev, Odessa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Kharkov, Kherson, Cherkassy, Chernovitskaya. Some of them include only certain areas; the entire list is shown in the table. If you stay outside the home zone for more than 4 days, then the payment for services will increase, if less the price does not change.
Saving Opportunities
Kyivstar offers to use one of the Internet options for more favorable tariffs for megabytes:
- The Internet package “Night” is an additional 10 GB of traffic for 30 UAH, it is valid only from 0 to 8 am. You can activate the service using the command *266*1#.
- “Day Online” - you get 1 GB for 15 UAH by dialing *263*1#. To check email or download files, you no longer need to search for an available Wi-Fi point. All you need to do is connect a traffic package and stay connected anywhere and anytime.
