How to block SMS to short numbers. Protect yourself from mobile fraud

Protection from paid content of fraudulent partners of Mobile Operators

In this topic I will try to collect currently relevant information about the services of the Big Three operators for private users to combat the theft of money with the help of commercial content providers. This is what we have been able to dig up to date for each operator (across Russia).

Please note that ALL third-party services stop working. Including payment services by SMS - parking, metro, etc.

For private users there is a free one, for corporate users there is “Content Ban 20” for 20 rubles per month.
Based on experience and reviews on forums, this is not a 100% ban, but it cuts off all commercial scammers. The “Content Ban” option is not advertised by the operator; it is not in the standard lists for tariff plans. You can connect either by calling the hotline (with a code word), or in person at MTS offices. You can separately disable SMS 1) To short numbers; 2) For long-distance/international (thanks mihmig).

There is a feedback form for complaints. After the investigation, the money is returned.

You can draw up a paper additional agreement to the contract stating that no additional service can be connected without your written application. I emphasize - without a WRITTEN statement. No SMS, clicking on links, etc. a written statement, of course, is not. Accordingly, it makes sense to visit the office and conclude such an additional agreement, attaching to it a list of already connected services.

Author's recommendation

: If the phone is used by elderly people or children, a good option (unfortunately) would be to simply disable the ability to receive/send SMS. It is also possible to “Unsubscribe from all current subscriptions” for a number - by dialing short numbers, calling a hotline, or making a personal visit.

How to disable incoming SMS on MTS

Terms and restrictions

“SMS-Pro” is available to users of most tariff plans, except for “Cool”, “Connect”, “Online”, “MTS iPad” and their current variations. The number of blocked numbers reaches 300.

The operator has the right to block only numbers determined by MTS equipment. The blocking applies to mobile, landline and international numbers.

The service operates in 77 countries with which CAMEL roaming agreements have been concluded. If necessary, check out the full list here: https://static.ssl.mts.ru/uploadpsz/contents/628/camel.pdf.

In addition, you can set SMS blocking on MTS to numbers not in all Russian regions (Kaluga, Tula, Ryazan, Belgorod, Kursk, Vladimir, Tver, Ivanovo, Smolensk, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Orel, Kostroma, Moscow and Moscow region, Tambov, Bryansk and Yaroslavl region).

Connecting the service

To start using “SMS-Pro”, send the message “Reg” or “ON” to 232. SMS to a service number in your region is sent free of charge; in roaming, the cost is calculated according to the current tariff plan.

Activation of the service is impossible if restrictions are imposed on the number of the subscriber attempting to perform the operation.

After connecting, add unwanted numbers using the following commands:

  • *442# call (follow menu prompts);
  • SMS “22*number written in international format” to 4424;
  • go to your Personal Account, located at the link bl.mts.ru (MTS personal assistant provides subscribers with more options for managing the service. In particular, it is possible to set up time restrictions. For example, while you are at work or in the evening).

Please note that restrictions apply to SMS messages; they do not apply to mms.

How to ban MegaFon subscriptions?

We are used to controlling spending on mobile communications, so when expenses exceed expected limits, we begin to sound the alarm and accuse the mobile operator of fraud. In this article, let's try to figure out whether this is true and how to protect yourself from extortionate phone bills. To protect themselves from unexpected extra expenses on mobile communications, many people prefer to ban MegaFon subscriptions.

What is needed to activate the service?

Previously, it was possible to add a service using a simple USSD command, but the operator, hunting for profit, excluded this possibility.

Today, prohibiting sending SMS to MTS short numbers is possible only if the owner of the number provides representatives of the mobile operator with documents confirming his rights. This is done in order to complicate the connection procedure and get as much income as possible from clients.

There are several simple ways:

  1. Call MTS support service at 0890 and follow the instructions to install the option.
  2. Contact one of the company's offices in person.

How to disable additional features

The first task when you detect that money has been debited from your account in excess of the norm is to check for paid subscriptions. You can perform the operation in the following ways:

The most effective way to stop unnecessary charges is to enable a ban on paid options. You can do this as follows:

In addition, you can deactivate paid subscriptions by sending an SMS with the word “STOP” to 5051.

Any Megafon subscriber can use the “Stop Content” function, regardless of the tariff plan. However, please note that the service operates exclusively on your home network; the service will not operate outside the region.

There is no charge for activating the ban on paid subscriptions; the service is absolutely free.

Blocking SMS from MTS short numbers

Those wishing to block receiving letters from short service numbers (up to 7 digits) should use the same option. To connect it costs:

  • connect the “Blacklist” using your personal account or a special USSD command 111*442#;
  • activate “SMS Pro” in your personal account or by sending a message with the text On to number 232.

An alternative solution would be to call the contact center, where a personal assistant will tell you in detail how to connect. If his instructions are not enough, the consultant will activate the blocking himself. But the subscriber should prepare a passport in advance so that the operator can identify the caller.

Banning SMS from DEF numbers

Less often than from short ones, spam SMS messages come from regular federal numbers. Such numbers are called DEF and have the usual format +7(9ХХ)-ХХХ-ХХ-ХХ. Banning SMS from such numbers is a little more difficult, but still possible. In this case, as in the case of short numbers, each number is blocked separately.

How to set a ban

To block receiving messages from such a number, you must write a statement at an MTS communication salon. In it you will need to indicate the number itself and the text of the message from it. After receiving the application and processing it, which takes place within 5 working days, you will be connected to three at once, “Black List” and “SMS Pro” (free).

Price

If all three options are connected simultaneously upon application at the MTS office, then no fee will be charged for them. However, if you disable the “Prohibition of receiving SMS messages from DEF numbers” option, a subscription fee will be charged for the remaining 2 services.

Additional terms

How to connect

The “Ban content” option can be activated in different ways:

  • by dialing *984#;
  • by calling the mobile operator's help center at short 0890 (from an MTS number) or 8-800-250-0890 (from another number);
  • by contacting the company office (you must have your passport with you);
  • by sending an SMS with the text 21190 to short 111;
  • by sending an application by fax to +7-495-766-00-58 or by email (these options are often used by legal entities);
  • through the subscriber’s personal account on the MTS website;
  • using the “Virtual Manager” service;
  • through the “My MTS” mobile application.

All connection methods are free and do not require much time. The subscriber can choose any option convenient for him.
