Many residents of Russia have an account on VKontakte, so the chances of finding someone here are greater than when using search engines.
Anyone can find a page on VKontakte by phone number, only if its owner has not disabled this function in the privacy settings.
At the same time, even if the profile turns out to be closed, you will still find out your first and last name, possibly your date of birth and place of study.
How to find a person on VKontakte by phone number:
1. Add a phone number to your contacts 2. Open the VK application 3. Go to the Services -> Friends tab 4. Click on the Add friend button 5. In the Import friends section, select Contacts. The application will ask for access to your contacts, grant it
Now all that remains is to find a stranger. But this will not be so easy to do, because VKontakte does not show the phone number and first and last name from the phone book.
Ways that don't work
There are sometimes creepy methods on the Internet that allow you to find out who owns the number. When you read these recommendations, the hair on your head moves. Here are some of them:
- Contacting the police - this method works, but only if the person you are looking for has done something (threatens with physical harm over the phone, bothers you with phone calls). We write a statement and wait for the results - the owner of the number will definitely be invited to a confrontation. The problem is that they will invite the legal owner, and not the real user (if another person uses the number). But the police will figure out what's what. And one more thing - the data of the person you are looking for will not be given to you.
- Contacting the help desk, citing threats from the desired subscriber, is generally ridiculous; no one will tell you who the number belongs to.
- Specifying data when making a payment does not work. Dealers do not see whose accounts they are replenishing.
- Finding acquaintances in a communication shop and obtaining data through it is illegal, immoral, but it works. Risk – the person you are looking for may find out that someone tried to obtain his personal data and write a statement to the police, prosecutor’s office or regulatory authorities. The operator's lawyers will somehow sort out this problem, but your friend will be fired (well, if at his own request, but better without trial).
Some of these techniques are quite working.
Search on Instagram
On Instagram you can also find a person by phone number. This is done by analogy with VKontakte.
Just keep in mind that the stranger must have an account with an associated phone number.
How to find a person on Instagram by phone number:
1. Add your phone number to your contacts 2. Open Instagram and go to your profile 3. Click the Follow button 4. At the top you will be asked to find a page by phone number. Click the Connect button and grant access to contacts 5. Wait 5-10 minutes, go to the menu in your profile (three bars in the upper right corner) and click the Interesting people button.
All Instagram users from your contacts, as well as contacts from WhatsApp, will be displayed here. Remember that there will also be those who are friends of your linked Facebook account (if you have linked it before). So the method is not effective, but as an option it will do.
Search on Facebook
On Facebook it is much easier to search for a person by phone number than on VKontakte and Instagram. Just open Facebook and enter the number in the search bar in the format 7XXXXXXXXXX.
If you don’t find anyone, then there may be two options: the user has linked another phone number, or has prohibited searching for his page in this way. Well, or the person simply isn’t on Facebook.

"Yandex"
The Yandex application includes a browser, weather informer, voice assistant “Alice” and caller ID. The determination is carried out using an online database that includes over 5 million records. Download the application, enable caller ID and give it the appropriate permissions, get information about callers. Please note that Yandex does not determine the numbers of individuals, but it perfectly recognizes calls from collectors, spammers, banks and other organizations.
"Kaspersky Who Calls"
The “Kaspersky Who Calls” application was created by Kaspersky Lab and has great functionality:
- Instantly determines the identity of unknown numbers;
- Warns about unwanted calls;
- Informs about missed calls;
- Allows you to add unwanted numbers to the spam database.
The application is free, it works both online and offline (the database is stored in the application itself).
"Who is calling"
Here is an application from the developer GILRAEN LIMITED. Its capabilities:
- Replaces the standard “dialer”;
- Identifies incoming numbers based on a regularly updated database;
- Shows reviews and security labels;
- Determines the regional affiliation of calling subscribers;
- Recognizes calls from banks, debt collectors, insurance companies, stores and dubious organizations.
The paid version allows you to find out how you are recorded by other subscribers (provided that they also use this application).
"Truecaller"
The mobile application “Truecaller” will allow you to find out who the caller’s number belongs to. The database contains telephone numbers of tens of thousands of organizations. It also implements automatic blocking of spam numbers, and advertising SMS are blocked in the same way. Additional functions:
- Recording telephone calls for further listening and analysis;
- Exchange messages with other users through the built-in messenger with the ability to send information about geolocation;
- Export the list of calls, contacts and settings to Google Disk.
The application does not work on the Android 9 Pie operating system.

Checking the number in Sberbank
Sberbank is the most popular bank in Russia. Almost everyone there has a card. Therefore, it would not be amiss to try to find a person here too.

Find out the address by mobile phone number
If none of the above methods worked, you can try to find an address using a cell phone number for free through a mobile operator. It is not difficult to recognize a communication provider, because each company has its own individual three-digit code. To obtain general information, you need to enter three numbers in the search engine, coming in combination after the first. Providers officially do not have the right to disclose information about their clients.
However, for a certain amount you can try to find an employee who will help you. If not, try contacting management with an official statement, in which you need to indicate the reason why data about the person’s residence is needed (threats on his part to your personal safety or others). In some cases, mobile phone company executives are accommodating.
We are looking through advertisements on Avito
The person we are looking for must have posted an ad on Avito at least once. Without this condition, the method does not work.
First, we find his advertisements using a special website. Enter the phone number in any format into the search bar, click on the ad, and then click on the Link to ad on Avita button.
As a rule, the real name is indicated on Avito. If you're lucky and the seller places his photo on his profile, you can upload it to Google or Yandex image search, and then find accounts on social networks.
Contacting the communications office
Here is another rather old, but very effective and simple approach. This is an appeal to the subscriber's communications office with a request to provide you with the person's address. Quite often this need is satisfied. Especially if the person in question is a close relative of yours.
You just need to find out which operator your subscriber has. Now this can be done using the Internet. And then it’s a matter of little things. Contact the nearest communication center of this operator, and then ask for the subscriber’s address. Sometimes you have to write a statement. In addition, here you can find out the landline phone number at the address. It’s just worth noting right away that some employees may refuse to give you information. Then you will have to resort to using one of the above methods.
Getcontact and similar applications if other methods do not help
Getcontact (available in the App Store and Google Play) contains a large database of numbers with first and last names, which is replenished by the users themselves. They give access to their phone book and its contacts, thus populating the service with search results.
Alas, when registering for the service you will be asked for a phone number and access to contacts. Without this, it is impossible to use the application. In addition to Getcontact, there are now a lot of similar applications and services - and they work similarly. All of them are initially free, but have in-app purchases for additional features.
Important: Getcontact is known for privacy issues, so use it at your own risk. This also applies to any other services that require access to your Contacts. Their names and numbers will become the property of the service. Be vigilant and do not open access if you have something (or someone) to hide.
