I want to warn readers of iPhones.ru about some unpleasant stuff. As you know, now every opsos in Russia has unlimited tariffs, or options with a large gigabyte package. It seems illogical to choose the second option when there is that same “unlim”.
But operators are not fools either.
In the terms and conditions of almost all unlimited tariffs, an interesting thing is indicated in the fine print. When there is a “network load,” the Internet speed may be limited . For example, here is the following line in the unlimited tariff Tariffische from MTS:
But Tele2 has a similar phrase in the My Unlimited tariff:
It's hard to find fault, would you agree? Loads and restrictions are understandable; anything can happen.
But here's an interesting answer to my question. Why do “loads” most often occur among users of the unlimited tariff?
When there is a traffic package, the speed is different! Here's an example, I just read it on Pikabu yesterday. Yota client compares speed on “unlimited” and package tariff:
It's unlimited.
It's not unlimited.
Both SIM cards operate next to each other. Therefore, the option with different network loads is excluded.
I can confirm for my part that I have Tele2 on two different SIM cards, but only one has unlimited Internet. If you start actively using it, the speed drops sharply. At the same time, everything is fine on the second SIM card.
If you look on the Internet, there are thousands of such cases. And most often they are noticed by users of unlimited tariffs. The pattern is obvious: operators deliberately cut speeds for those who can use them the most.
How can this be resolved? For example, let the operator’s proprietary application show the maximum speed at the moment. Since there is some kind of “load”, why can’t you warn about it?
Megafon has this in its unlimited tariff.
I'm not even talking about the widespread restriction of file-sharing services : almost all of our operators instantly reduce the speed to 128 kbps at the slightest hint of a running torrent client.
Finally, a new feature has recently appeared: prohibiting Internet distribution via modem mode . Absolutely all unlimited games that are currently available prohibit or require additional money to enable distribution on a smartphone.
MTS has this, but all non-archive unlimited tariffs now have such restrictions.
In short, when connecting to an unlimited tariff, think twice. In fact, it may only have a name, but the details will contain dozens of tricks that will limit both your speed and capabilities.
I advise you to better choose the 30-50 gigabyte option. It’s unlikely you’ll pump them all out anyway. But there is more freedom.
