What codes does a mobile number in Russia consist of?
All numbers in Russia begin with the international code +7. This code is in the number for each country and, as a rule, begins with a plus sign “+”.
This is followed by the operator code. In Russia, it consists of three numbers following the country code. For example, +7 900, +7 902, +7 904 are Tele2 operator codes. There is one more feature in the codes of all Russian mobile operators - they start with nine (9).
Operator codes are not always unique, meaning operators sometimes share the same code. This feature is due to the fact that there are more than 100 telephone operators in Russia. And creating ideal and equal conditions for everyone is a technically difficult task. It is this feature that sometimes does not allow us to determine for sure just by the code of a particular operator. Often, for a more accurate determination, the next few digits of the phone number are needed.
For example, code 958 is shared by several mobile operators. To be more precise, more than 20. It is available in the numbers of MTT, Tele2, Sberbank-Telecom, Sprint, Intersvyaz, Rostelecom, MATRIX telecom, Sonet, etc. If you want to accurately determine the operator only by code, you simply cannot do without the Internet or a special reference book.
We will return to the issue of services for identifying an operator by codes and number.

What numbers start Tele2 numbers
The coverage area of Tele2 mobile numbers has expanded to most of the territory of the Russian Federation. The operator captured more than 15% of subscribers throughout Russia.
This means that he owns a long series of codes with which telephone numbers begin.
All the following codes are used by Tele2:
- 900, 901, 902, 904, 908;
- 950, 951, 952, 953, 958;
- 990, 991, 992, 993, 994, 996, 999.
Almost every one of them has to be shared with other operators. To determine the region to which a phone number with one of these codes is associated, you will need the help of a directory. Operator codes that do not begin with nine (9) apply to landline numbers. Based on the list of Tele2 codes above, we can conclude that the second digit of this operator's code can be 0, 5 or 9. Other digits in the code indicate that the number belongs to another operator.
The emergence of this format
For convenience, a single unified system has been created, thanks to which users communicate with each other and the number is identified. The latter service is built into all tariffs and is provided free of charge.
There are two accepted numbering methods in the world: open and closed. The first of them allows you to call other subscribers without using an area code. A closed plan implies the introduction of a full-length number even for local calls; intercity communication or with foreigners follows the same scheme.
The open plan is more convenient, but it is rarely used, since everyone is trying to focus on the international format. Recently, Moscow completely switched to it, so numbers of 5 or 7 characters are no longer available to residents of the capital. This format remains only for communication within one region between landline phones. When traveling long distance you will have to indicate the number of the locality, and when communicating with foreigners you will have to additionally enter +7.
A way to find out which region a particular code belongs to
You can find many directories on the Internet that will help you tell a lot just by phone number. For example, the operator and region in which this number is registered. If you try, you can even determine the first and last name of the person who bought the SIM card. Let's say you are interested in which operators use this or that code, except for Tele2 or others.
On the site you can determine the region by number or code by region. The directory displays information on landline numbers.
To determine the region or code, do the following:
- Select one of two forms and enter the appropriate request. If you need to find out the region by number, you should enter it in an empty line without the country code;
- Below will be the cities and corresponding phone number codes;
- If you need to find out the city by code, enter it in the form on the left.
For cell phones, you can use the directory at https://region-operator.ru/.
The top block displays all operator codes so that you can select any one and get complete information on it. The site contains mainly data from only the “mobile four” - MTS, Megafon, Beeline and Tele2. There is a form for entering your phone number to get detailed information about it.
You can also find out what numbers the phones in the Tele2 network in Russia begin with.
By entering the number in the form, you will determine the region and operator. The page contains interesting tips for those who want to get even more information about the number. These recommendations contain a link to a supposedly effective resource for identifying an individual through a phone number. But this service requires money after registration. Which already indicates its dubious usefulness. Moreover, there are more reliable methods that are free.

Interesting fact
The origin of the call sign 007 and many James Bond films has a real story that is connected with the Soviet regime, British spy Sidney Reilly (real name Solomon Rosenblum). Until 1918 in Moscow, in order to make a call, you had to pick up the phone, turn the knob three times, and you would be connected to a telephone operator, who would connect you to the required subscriber.
The first automatic dialing station in Russia was installed in 1918 in the Kremlin. Solomon Rosenblum’s cousin, Yakov Blumkin, served in the Cheka. He was close to F.E. Dzerzhinsky. Yakov suggested that Felix install automatic telephony so that there would be no need to call an operator and ask to be connected.
An automatic station from Bella is being installed in the Kremlin. 100 telephones allocated. Lenin got number 001, Trotsky - 002, Sverdlov - 003. Dzerzhinsky got number 007. The same number was duplicated for an additional device that was in Sidney Reilly's apartment. Accordingly, when Dzerzhinsky’s phone rang, Reilly’s phone also rang. It was enough to pick up the phone to listen to the conversation. eventually became "007 ". This is how the famous agent Bond, James Bond, appeared.
Determining a person's name by phone number
When you receive messages with incomprehensible content on your phone or calls continue all day, you want to find out who is trying to contact us. There are situations when simply answering and identifying the caller is not an option. Or they hang up immediately after answering. In this case, the Internet can help you again. After all, there are a huge number of sites where people themselves post their personal data for everyone to see.
Source: | Instructions: |
Social media | Use all platforms in which you are personally registered. Enter the number in the search bar of social networks and click the search button. If the user who owns the number has an open profile and it is recorded in it, you will be able to see the owner in the results. If this number is not available, we will try to use another option to find a person by mobile number. |
Avito | Data such as email address, mobile phone, Skype and others are often freely available. But the bulletin board site itself does not want to show user contacts. Therefore, you need to use a third-party site that helps you search for ads by phone number - https://mirror.bullshit.agency/. Go to this address and enter the phone number in the blank line. After which you will see advertisements in which the phone number you entered is listed as a contact. |
Find out the owner through messengers
There is another fairly effective way to determine a person’s name, knowing only his phone number - this is a search using instant messengers. Today, Whats App or Viber is used by everyone. After all, they give us the opportunity to call for free using the Internet. These applications are designed in such a way that data can be exchanged between devices through cloud servers. That is why when you add a contact to the phone book with Whats App turned on, you see the person's name.
Now your task is to add an unknown number that interests you at the moment to the phone book of your smartphone. The mobile device must have one of the above messengers installed, as well as an active Internet connection. If the owner of an unknown number is registered on WhatsApp, you will see his name. If all else fails, try checking your Viber contact.
If these methods do not help, search engines remain. Try searching for the number on Google or Yandex. This method has one advantage - it searches all social networks, message boards and dating sites at once. Be careful when doing this. Often in search results, the codes of Russian operators (Tele2, Beeline, etc.) and the numbers of telephone numbers are changed.
