The easiest and cheapest way for a tourist is to buy a local Ukrainian card. You can buy a prepaid package at any mobile phone store, at card sales points on the street or at cash desks in shopping centers. A passport is not required to purchase a prepaid SIM card. All you need to do is buy a starter pack, insert a SIM card into your phone and top up your account to be able to make calls within Ukraine. By the way, you can top up your account at places where starter packages are sold or at electronic terminals, which are available in all cities of Ukraine. They are usually installed in shops and shopping centers on the central streets of the city.
How to call Vodafone (MTS) Ukraine operator
Before calling the Vodafone operator, you need to study the sequence of actions in advance, because calls from abroad and from landline phones are made to different numbers. Also consider the cost of such a call. Vodafone provides the opportunity to communicate with an operator for free or paid according to the current tariff. In the first case, you will have to wait a long time to communicate with a call center employee, and the waiting time depends on the workload of the service. In the second case, you won't have to wait.
How to contact the Vodafone operator?
To reach a Vodafone call center employee from a mobile phone with a Vodafone tariff package, follow this procedure:
In addition, Vodafone (MTS) provides its subscribers with the opportunity to choose a paid call to an operator, which allows them to quickly get in touch to resolve urgent issues. The cost of such a call is 50 kopecks plus contributions to the pension fund and taxes.
Which SIM card is better for a tourist to buy?
All mobile operators in the Czech Republic are ready to offer their subscribers different service packages and everyone tries to make it cheaper, but not to the detriment of themselves. We have figured out what kind of internet will be inexpensive for a tourist and will meet the traveler’s needs. Now it remains to understand which one will be more optimal in terms of calls and SMS. For this purpose we will also make a comparison table (cost of services in CZK)
Service/operator | Vodafone | T-Mobile | O2 |
Outgoing calls within the country (per minute) | 3,5 | 3,9 | 4,9 |
Outgoing calls to other countries, incl. Russia (per minute) | 5,04 | 12 | – |
Outgoing SMS (in CZK per piece) | 1,9 | 1,9 | 1,9 |
Additional package (calls per minute) | – | Unlimited within the country | Unlimited within the network and 50 CZK for calls to Russia per minute |
Additional SMS package (in CZK per piece) | Unlimited internet connection for 20 CZK daily | – | 2,0 |
Thus, the cheapest calls within the network are from the Vodafone provider, and the most expensive are from O2. The cost of SMS is the same for everyone, so it makes no difference which company will be preferred. When connecting additional packages, the most profitable provider will be O2, which offers unlimited within the country and calls to Russia for 50 CZK per minute.
Calls from another operator or landline
If your phone is locked and you only have a city landline or a cell phone with a tariff from another company, then you can still call MTS. The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- dial the number 0 800400 111;
- choose the language of communication (Ukrainian or Russian);
- listen to the sections spoken by the answering machine and press the appropriate button on the keyboard that corresponds to the selected section;
- To communicate directly with a call center employee, press zero and wait for a connection.
It’s even easier to get the necessary information or help regarding tariffs in the chat on the company’s website. If you have free access to the Internet, then getting an answer to your question through the official website is much easier and faster than waiting a long time to connect with a call center employee.
Calls to Vodafone operator from abroad
An equally important question is how to call the Vodafone (Ukraine) operator from abroad. If your phone is roaming, just dial the number 555 from your cell phone. Tariffing starts from the twentieth second of the call and is 47 kopecks including VAT, excluding contributions to the pension fund.

- Register in the Vodafone UA network and use mobile services within the activated tariff.
- The maximum period of stay in roaming is 30 days. Further orders are possible after registration in the Vodafone home network.
- When connecting the required service, you must first disable the previous one.
- The roaming service will be limited or disabled if the subscriber has used 3 or more Vodafone SIM cards while roaming for 30 days.
It is noteworthy that when changing the tariff within the Vodafone network, the connected service providing affordable roaming remains the same.
The roaming service can be activated remotely without outside help. The subscriber just needs to send the corresponding USSD request.

Where to buy a SIM card
If you decide to stick with local operators in the Czech Republic, then initially you need to think about buying a SIM card from the selected provider. You can buy it immediately upon arrival at the airport or train station. Here, even if you don’t know the language, it won’t be difficult - the seller will understand even a Russian-speaking person, even if it’s just gestures.
You can also purchase a SIM card for tourists at common retail outlets, for example, supermarkets, large shopping centers, mobile phone stores, kiosks or grocery stores. Do not try to purchase SIM cards from private individuals in various places, because here you can easily be deceived by selling already used cards with a negative balance or even blocked.
It is worth noting that prepaid cards can be purchased without registration, i.e. no need for a passport or other identification document. Just purchase and use. The functioning scheme is simple - top up your balance and start communicating.

When power plants emergency stop working in a populated area, city telephone communications can still continue to function. And from a landline phone you can also call 0(800)400-111. This is a free service. Money for it is not withdrawn either from the phone of another operator or from a landline telephone account.

How to call Vodafone operator
Vodafone sucks. The tariff is being raised for the second time in a year. My package includes SMS services, but SMS are not sent. I wanted to call the operator, but it turned out it costs 10 hryvnia. There is no limit to your greed. I will be switching to another operator. What kills the most is that there is nowhere to go without paying 10 grams.
It’s impossible to get through by phone - no matter how long you wait - Hey, all the operators are busy!! ...but for 10 UAH - instantly)) Transferred to another TP and gobbled up all the money from the account... how Jewish-European is that!

Want to save money?
Payment for mobile communications is not the biggest expense item for a tourist in Prague. Few people spend more than 1000 rubles a week. But if you want to reduce this amount, then ask around in Czech Russian-speaking communities or forums dedicated to tourist trips to this country to see if anyone is selling an unnecessary SIM card. This destination is quite popular and often they bring back not only pleasant memories, but also SIM cards with unused packages.
