Important conditions for number portability
If you want to change the MTS operator to Tele2, you need to carry out preliminary preparation, which in most cases is limited only to checking the data. Here are the following conditions for transition:
- Tele2 is a well-known mobile operator that began operating in Russia in 2003. Despite this, for 2021 the company provides its services in 67 regions out of 85 possible. Hence, it becomes necessary to first clarify whether the operator operates in your region.
- Is the SIM card being used issued in the name of the applicant? Often the desire to keep a phone number arises when it has been used for many years. During this time, users simply forget who issued the card for them - sometimes operators give out several numbers as a result of an ongoing promotion.
- The SIM card balance valid at the time of application must be positive. The most important thing is the absence of debt. If the balance on the number is negative, MTS employees will require you to top it up. Otherwise, the transfer will not be carried out.
At the legislative level, there are no prohibitions on transferring to another operator if there is a debt on the phone number account. If MTS employees require you to top up your balance, you can refuse and insist on accepting the application. But with a negative score, Tele2 may not provide its services, which it has every right to do.
What is MNP?
MNP (Mobile Number Portability) is a tool that allows you to change your cellular network provider company, but keep your federal number. This technology began to be put into active use in 2013. Today, all representatives of the Big Four in the Russian Federation have it.
Transfer from MTS to Tele2 while maintaining the number - instructions
There are two ways to switch to another cellular operator, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. In this case, filing an application online and by visiting the office in person will be considered.
Transfer your number online
Cellular operators offer a transition while saving your number via the Internet, but in fact this is not done independently. Here you can only submit an application for consideration of the issue. Tele2 employees will study the user’s history, as well as the possibility of his transition to them. Only in the absence of prohibitions will the applicant receive a corresponding notification.
Instructions for switching from MTS to Tele2 while maintaining the number are presented as follows:
- On the official Tele2 website you must submit an application to switch to an operator while maintaining your number. To do this, go to the main page using the link, then scroll down and find the form to go to the operator - go to Tele2 with a new number or with your own. They choose “with their own”.
- Next, fill out a form in which you enter your data and immediately select a tariff for further use.
- It is recommended to choose a receipt method, especially if you are in a sparsely populated area.
- After checking personal data, they fill out an application and wait for the decision of the company employees.
The average time to process an application is one day. During this time, a Tele2 employee can contact the applicant to clarify any questions. After confirming the possibility of transferring while maintaining the number, a convenient time for visiting the collection point is discussed with the applicant upon the fact of issuing a new card. You can order a courier service to deliver your order, which takes no more than 3 days. Delivery is free.
Personal visit to the communication salon
If it is not possible to submit an application via the Internet or due to ignorance of how to work on a computer, you can contact a mobile phone store in person. To do this, you must follow the following instructions:
- You must go to the nearest Tele2 mobile phone store with your passport. During the visit, you must write a statement with a request to go to them, but maintaining the currently available phone number from MTS.
- When submitting an application, you can consult the tariffs offered by the organization. It is important to choose the most suitable one for yourself, since immediately upon issuing a SIM card, the tariff will already be in effect. Sometimes it is enough to insert it into your mobile phone so that the subscription fee is deducted from your balance. When changing tariff plans, amounts may differ significantly.
- Pay off the debt to another operator. As mentioned above, MTS will not be able to refuse the transfer if there is a negative balance, but in due time Tele2 will refuse to accept the application with the preservation of the number.
- Tele2 will issue the applicant with a temporary SIM card upon submission of the application, which he can use while studying the application and processing the data. The average processing time is 7-8 days. For some operators, the terms increase to 10 days, which can also be encountered in Tele2. The temporary card can also be connected to a similar tariff or a completely different one, if this seems convenient and profitable to the applicant.
- As soon as the data processing is successful, the applicant receives a notification that they can now receive a new SIM card.
In individual cases, the transition may be carried out in a different order, which should be clarified with Tele2 operators by calling them at 8-800-555-06-11.
What tariff can I choose?
There are no communication restrictions for a new user, so you can choose any offer you like from the tariff schedule. By default, the Tariff package is installed on the card. It provides unlimited Internet in Russia, then a choice of from 500 to 3000 minutes for calls, and the same number of messages. The subscription fee for 30 calendar days is 585 rubles. The advantage is that the Tariff conditions do not change when traveling to other regions.
To change your plan, contact the contact center or the nearest telecom store.
How will the process of transition from MTS to Tele2 proceed?
As already described above, switching to Tele2 while maintaining the number is not difficult, and the instructions given are complete. After the notification is sent, the applicant must visit a mobile phone store and pick up a new SIM card. The tariff plan specified in the application is automatically connected to it.
Next, the user only needs to insert the SIM card into his mobile phone and activate it. To do this, enter the PIN code and PUK code specified in the information attached to it. If you want to change your tariff plan, this should be done immediately, without delay. Otherwise, for several days of using the SIM card, funds will be withdrawn. Sometimes this leads to the balance going into negative territory, which negatively affects further cooperation with Tele2.
Features of using communication services during the transition period
After concluding a new contract with the operator, the subscriber will receive a temporary SIM card. Only after 8 days you will become a full-fledged Tele2 customer. Let's consider the features of providing communication services at the time of transferring a telephone number:
- The operator warns that during the transfer the user may experience temporary difficulties. During this period, specialists carry out technological work that can affect the quality of cellular communications.
- The subscriber will not have to notify banking organizations, set up instant messengers, or social networks. The switching process will occur automatically. Some banks require confirmation of changing the mobile company.
- The user can immediately install a temporary SIM card and use it in standard mode. Tariffing will be carried out according to the terms of the tariff plan that was chosen when concluding the contract.
- Funds from the temporary card will be retained after the transfer procedure is completed.
- If there is money left on the SIM card of the previous provider, it will disappear. Therefore, it is recommended to contact the MTS salon and write an application for a refund from the personal account of the number. The previous tariff plan and additional services are canceled after reconnection.
Possible problems during the transition to another operator
Problems during the transition include the negative decision of cellular employees in accepting a new client while maintaining the number. In this case, the following reasons for refusal can be identified:
- The client has a debt to MTS. Here we highlight the moments when, during data processing, a subscription fee is deducted from the balance. It turns out that at the time of submitting the application there were no problems, but already at the time the application was checked the balance became negative. To avoid this, you must first disable all paid services from MTS and top up your account with an additional amount.
- Passport information is provided incorrectly. This reason is based on the processing of information through MTS telecom operators. When transferring, the passport data specified in MTS must match the information entered when submitting an application to transfer to Tele2.
- The number simply does not belong to the applicant. As a rule, online applications are accepted without exception. Later, company employees identify inaccuracies.
- The number is considered blocked at the time of application. It doesn’t matter why this happened, but checking the validity of the phone number should be successful.
- The number is registered in another region. Make sure that the SIM card was received in the same locality where the application is currently being submitted.
- Previously, a transition to another operator had already been made. At least 2 months must pass after receiving the SIM card from MTS.
If the Tele2 operator issued a refusal, you should clarify why this happened. Otherwise, you will not be able to achieve success in your plan.
Moved to Megafon after 3 years with Tele2. Did I do it right or did I make a mistake?
An honest look at two operators.
Hello everyone , I once wrote that I ran away from the yellow telecom operator in Tele2. In 2021, he was still new to Moscow, so the step was desperate and thoughtless. But you already understood that I became a client of the “black” operator for years. That is, the spontaneous decision did not turn out to be wrong. So everything was fine? Why did you leave? And why exactly to Megafon? I will talk about this and much more below. Go!
A detailed story about my departure is already on Bloch, so I won’t repeat it. But I will say the main thing: at that time, the “striped” was experiencing a decline in quality, which prompted me to break off a 15-year relationship. Do I regret leaving? No . Do I regret that I switched to Tele2? No , I haven’t even thought about changing operators for more than 3 years. Over the years, Beeline could have become much better, so I can’t say anything about the quality of this operator in 2021.
I’ll start with the pros and end with the cons and the reason for leaving Tele2.
actually many advantages
- Really cheap .
- You can safely add other bonuses : free coffee, movie ticket, cashback when purchasing from partners, etc. To have all this, you need to open the “ More ” tab in the proprietary application. At times the promotions are so good that I made a profit in a month on one coffee. I mean that the benefit from the promotions exceeded my subscription fee several times. But it is worth saying that the shares are getting smaller. Apparently, this is due to the fact that many subscribers have already been attracted and the pace can be reduced.
- Carryover of balances to the next month. Transferred: Internet, minutes and SMS. True, I could never use them up completely, but it’s still nice that the reserve for communication is simply huge.
- Always free internet distribution.
- If there is a network, then the Internet just flies. This is directly related to the fact that Tele2 only uses 3G and 4G.
- Due to the use of only modern communication standards, reception is good even outside the city. And even very far from civilization: there is a tower, which means the speed is high. For example : at my dacha I get 4G at incredible speed. At the same time, there is no Megafon at all, and Beeline receives only from the second floor.
- I have never had any random or uncontrolled write-offs. And in case of disputes, the operator will compensate you for everything, even if it is you and not Tele2 who are wrong.
There are also disadvantages
- On some tariffs there may be an increase in the subscription fee. And without notifying the user. This has never happened to me, but there have been cases in my family. I don’t know why my tariff was bypassed, but it doesn’t change the essence.
- Internet connection failures often occur. What I mean: it feels like the towers are located a little far from each other. And at some point the Internet disappears completely. You can see this from the list of missed calls on WhatsApp, but the calls did not go through. And this happens not only when driving around the city, but also in some specific place. I was lucky, and such a sinkhole happened to be in an office building that I often visit.
The reason for my transition from Tele2 was precisely these failures. But I would like to immediately remind you that the quality of the Internet itself is at an excellent level. That is, if it catches, it catches 10 out of 10. It turns out that I switched because they can’t always reach me via the Internet. I have never noticed such problems with a regular connection. By the way, I didn’t have Internet problems before, I noticed them not so long ago. Maybe it's the phone? My iPhone (Rostest) is only a few months old and it’s unlikely that it behaves so strangely with Tele2. Has the situation changed with the transition to Megafon?
I have nothing to surprise you with here: you entered your data in the application/website or you immediately go to the office of the new operator. And you wait a whole week. By the way , I did everything through the application - it’s convenient. How the megafonov workers worked : they contacted me immediately, explained the details over the phone and sent a courier to me. And he checked my passport details, received 300 rubles from me (they will be in the account after the number is transferred) and handed me a SIM card. The SIM card is activated at the right time on its own; you only need to insert it into the phone. Well, I did a great job with this.
What about Tele2? 5 days out of 7 they were silent and only sent me SMS with the promise of a permanent 25% discount on the current tariff. To do this, you just need to change your mind - a life hack, by the way . Moreover, I received these messages immediately after SMS messages from Megafon. They notified me about the deadlines, the success of checking my data, etc., followed by a message from Tele2. A couple of days before the transition, an employee of the old operator still called me. I will definitely remember this conversation for a long time - I haven’t been so infuriated for a long time.
What happened? The girl politely asked about the reason for the transition, etc., everything was within reason. But then she began to persuade me to agree to receive advertising materials from Tele2. I remind you that I left him, and did not plan to become a subscriber. At first I politely refused, but the girl immediately replied that I didn’t even listen to her and continued to talk nonsense. Why didn't I just end the conversation? I don't hang up and ask you not to call me. Because I understand: the person calling me is doing his job and not doing it for pleasure. This does not apply to scammers, of course.
So I became a Megafon subscriber. What can I say:
- prices are higher than Tele2. But to understand this, it was not necessary to switch, of course.
- I didn’t receive any benefits for switching with my number. Nothing at all . The advertisement promises a free month when switching, but the promotion did not apply to my tariff.
- The quality of regular conversations is at the same level. At least in Moscow.
- I have not yet identified any such failures in the Internet connection that caused me to change operators.
- The only useful thing I noticed was MegafonTV . It’s already included in my tariff, at least.
- Unused minutes and internet will also roll over to the next month. To do this you need to connect.
- Affiliate promotions are also present, look in the proprietary application.
I’ll say right away that I didn’t take any speed measurements. I just know how my old operator fished, he chose the same places. So, in advertising, Megafon often praises itself and reports about the fastest Internet in Russia. I'm willing to bet. Internet speed is no higher than Tele2. But in Megafon the signal is more stable and the difference from a change of location leads to a decrease in speed, and not to a loss of Internet (as sometimes happens with an operator with a black logo). In my purely subjective assessment: Tele2’s speed is often higher than Megafonov’s, but the green ones have a more seamless coverage. What does this mean for us : Tele2 gives excellent speeds, but sometimes it can work unstable, while Megafon is always stable, the speed may decrease noticeably, but certainly not completely disappear. I consider stability to be the main issue in this matter. As a result : the speeds are rather equal, but Megafon’s coverage itself is better.
I can say that the connection quality is more or less similar. It’s just that Megafon has had decades to improve its network, and Tele2 got involved in this competitive struggle only a few years ago. Honestly, I would not change the operator if it were not for this failure in the quality of the Internet in a particular place . Moreover, if there was Wi-Fi there, I would never have thought about changing SIM cards, because I simply would not have known about the problem. Should you leave Tele2? If you haven’t had cases like mine, then definitely not. Overall quality is good. With another carrier, you'll likely pay more for your call, but you won't get anything special. Is it worth switching to Tele2 from another operator? If you are not happy with something about the current one, then be sure to consider Tele2. He really has something to offer you. From all this it follows that the fourth and youngest operator has caught up with its competitors. He just needs time to get a little better. Why did I switch to Megafon? I knew for sure that he fished well where it was most relevant to me. Will I return back to Tele2 after a while? Quite possible. I left without any negativity, it was just the way the circumstances turned out. Everyone likes it!

In what cases is it better to buy a new SIM card and refuse to save the number?
Giving up the idea is sometimes better than trying to keep the number. On this issue, the following situations can be identified when it is recommended to purchase a new SIM card:
- The presence of large debt on the balance sheet of MTS. Of course, this does not mean that in this way it will be possible to evade responsibility and the obligation to repay the debt. But if you need to quickly solve the problem, it is better to apply for a new SIM card with a new number.
- The SIM card is registered to another person. If this happens, two people will have to contact the Tele2 salon - the owner and the actual user, and this is often problematic.
- The currently valid phone number was received in another region, where it is currently not possible to travel.
To solve all problematic situations, it is recommended to purchase a new phone with two SIM cards. Everything will be resolved, and it will be more convenient for the user to make calls from a Tele2 SIM card and its favorable tariff, and to receive calls to a previously issued number from MTS.
Switching from MTS to Tele2 while keeping your number is not difficult if you follow the instructions above and take into account the nuances of a possible refusal. It is important to conduct a preliminary check of the registered information on the SIM card, and only then proceed with the transition.
