"Vodafone Red": recommendation for communication while roaming

On September 26, 2016, I switched to the Vodafone Red S 2015 tariff after receiving another message (an SMS with an offer to switch was received on September 21, 2016). This message said:

“Vodafone has prepared for you a special transition to the Vodafone Red S 2015 tariff: instead of 30 UAH/month – 21 UAH for 3 months. Join now - *730# If necessary, add up to 21 UAH.”

Having called 111 before switching to the proposed tariff (at that time I had a “no obligation” tariff from MTS, where the cost of a call per 1 minute was 0.1 UAH - I changed it in vain), the consultant confirmed that 21 UAH was indeed charged for 3 months during the transition. The internal feeling of a dirty trick did not evaporate, but still on September 26, 2016 I topped up my account with 21 UAH. and dialed *730#.

I received a welcome SMS like “Welcome” and I had the opportunity to call without restrictions on the MTS and Vodafone networks, I was credited with 30 minutes of calls within Ukraine and abroad, 30 SMS within Ukraine and abroad (for a month). I’ll say right away: in Ukraine these accrued minutes and SMS are really free (I called Kyivstar for free), but, for example, in Russia these minutes can be spent free of charge only on calls to landline phones, on MTS Russia it will be 1 UAH/min, on others in Russia - 5 UAH/min. If these 30 minutes are exhausted and a month has not passed, then calls to Russia will cost 20 UAH/min, and for landlines to Russia - 0.5 UAH.

09/26/2016 “I got tired” with the expectation that the SMS was true and I would pay 21 UAH for 3 months, after which a tariff of 30 UAH would be charged in the future. 21 UAH were withdrawn, but money in the amount of 30 UAH was needed not after 3 months, as expected, but exactly a month later. On October 26, 2016, the ability to make calls stopped (although I was counting on another 2 months of being able to call MTS, because I had hoped for the conditions offered). On 10/26/2016 on 111 the operator replied to me that I used some kind of discount in July (???) and now I need to top up my account with 30 UAH.

In Contact, a representative of the operator replied that “The promotion on the number 7700 could only be used once. You sent an SMS to this number on July 14, 2016, after which your number received a 30% discount on payment in the “Red S 2015” tariff. If you changed your tariff in July, you would pay three months for the new tariff plan with a 30% discount. However, you changed your tariff on September 26, 2016, so you only received a discount for a month. Your discount was disabled on 10/14/2016.”

Vaguely remembering the July events, I note that an SMS then came with approximately the following content (I, unfortunately, deleted it): “Send an SMS to 7700 and find out what we have prepared for you.” I sent and received the same SMS as on 09/21/2016, quoted above. That's all. Months later, I received the same SMS again and I switched.

And now the question: “How can you guess that having connected a package in September, there are only a few days left before the attractive conditions expire? And why is the text of the SMS designed in such a way as to mislead - it follows that the initial payment is 21 for 3 months (i.e. 21 UAH is withdrawn and the next payment will be only after 3 months - after all, it wasn’t written “replacement 30” UAH/month – 21 UAH/month for 3 months”, namely it is said that

replacement 30 UAH/month – 21 UAH for 3 months).

The operator’s representative in Contact advised “contact 111 or our group to avoid misunderstandings.” But from personal experience, I can only recommend a written appeal. After all, changing the tariff is a one-way ticket, I won’t be able to return back to my “without obligation” one. I was once again convinced of the skill of marketers and that any action is aimed not at saving customers, but at increasing the company’s income.

PS On the evening of 10.26.16 I still topped up my account with 30 UAH. On 10.27.16 only at 12.20 they were withdrawn from the account and free minutes for calls were added. That is, if I called in the first half of the day on October 27, 2016, I would have been charged 3 UAH (the cost of the tariff for 1 day) and again there would not have been enough money to pay for the package for 1 month (and the operator assured that the money would be debited in the morning).

Since the appearance of 3G on the market, each of the Ukrainian mobile operators has changed prices for services several times. “MTS-Ukraine”, which announced a deal with Vodafone in October 2015, the first tariffs under the new brand a month after the event. Since then, they have not changed, although the operator introduced new tariff lines to the market. From May 5, 2021, Vodafone will still increase the price of the Red 2015 line by an average of 41%.

Old tariffs Vodafoe Red 2015

The old Red S, M and L tariffs cost 30, 50 and 90 UAH respectively. After May 5, they will cost subscribers 45 (15 UAH more expensive or 50%), 70 (+ 20 UAH) and 120 UAH (+30 UAH) monthly. The scope of services will not change in any way.

Using the “Year without subscription fees” service, the operator allows you to postpone the cost increase. If users pay the subscription fee for a year at once, the price will remain the same: Red S 2015 – 360 UAH, M – 600 UAH, L – 1080 UAH. But if you pay for a year of using the tariff before May 3, the cost will be 20% lower than even the old tariffs: Red S – 300 UAH, Red M – 500 UAH, Red L – 900 UAH.

The 2015 tariff line, which has been increasing in price since May 5, is inferior in terms of price-volume of services to the latest current tariffs. For example, Red XS 2021 costs 40 UAH per month. For them, the subscriber receives unlimited within the network, 1 GB of Internet, 60 minutes for calls to other networks. The Red S 2015 offer is 5 UAH more expensive, but includes half the amount of traffic and the number of minutes for inter-network calls.

Let us remind you that last year the company introduced a completely new line of tariffs: Red XS, S, M L. After which they expanded the volume of services provided on the eve of the new year. Then the operator left a promotional offer, but on tariff prices.

The operator Vodafone Ukraine, after launching a new line of Red Extra tariffs, began cleaning up old tariff plans. As a result, the affordable Red XS tariff will be closed from May 5, 2021.

What do you need to know?

The changes do not affect subscribers from Sumy, Poltava, Donetsk, Lugansk and Kherson, where Red XS continues to operate. True, on April 27 their tariff will rise from 50 to 60 hryvnia.

If the user has activated the “Year without monthly fees”, he will be automatically transferred to Vodafone Red XS+ while maintaining the validity period of the service. The terms of the tariff are almost the same, only the SMS package differs: instead of 50 messages per day for 1.5 UAH, the subscription fee immediately includes 30 SMS per month (then at 0.5 UAH per piece). In this tariff, the price will also soon be raised to 60 hryvnia per month, but you still won’t have to pay until the end of the GBA. From May 5, a new service of international calls to 62 countries will also be available: 10 minutes per day for 5 hryvnia, up to 10 packages can be activated per day.

All other subscribers will be transferred to Red Extra XS or Red Extra XS-2. The second tariff is available in certain regions, it is slightly cheaper - 50 hryvnia instead of the standard 55 hryvnia for 4 weeks. As we have already said, in all new tariffs the validity period of service packages is exactly 28 days (13 monthly fees per year).

Roaming offers all incoming calls in Europe and the CIS countries for 2 UAH/min, without connecting additional services. If you connect services for roaming it will be even cheaper.

If you choose among Vodafone tariffs, then with a larger volume it is Vodafone M or with a smaller volume Vodafone Red XS.

RED EXTRA XS

Vodafone's Red Extra XS tariff is designed for users who need constant and stable mobile Internet.

Terms of use of the Vodafone Red XS tariff:

• unlimited communication with all Vodafone subscribers within Ukraine;
• sixty minutes for calls to clients of other companies and to home numbers;
• free SMS and MMS to any numbers in the amount of thirty pieces;
• ten minutes at five hryvnia per day for calls abroad;
• two gigabytes of high-speed Internet;
• the price of using the XS tariff for a month is fifty-five hryvnia.

Tariffs for calls abroad

Calls abroad at Vodafone tariffs are today recognized as one of the best in Ukraine. In order to enjoy favorable terms of service, you do not need to activate any additional services or promotions: the cost of such calls is in any case affordable, but depends on your tariff plan.

The most profitable contract remains, under the terms of which the package includes 150 minutes for calls both within Ukraine to different numbers and abroad. In this case, the cost of the tariff is 150 UAH/month or 1500 UAH/year for a one-time payment.

But there is another version of the Red tariff - with the XS+ prefix. It is also provided for all subscribers in the country. There are several features of this service:

• Free calls to numbers of other operators to any direction in Ukraine within 60 minutes per month;
• Internet is not charged in the amount of 1 GB for the same period;
• You can exchange messages for free up to 30 messages;
• This tariff costs only 40 hryvnia within a monthly period.

Still, the usual XS differs from the similar plus plan. In XS+, 30 messages are provided for a month. But for a regular package, 50 messages per day are provided at a cost of 1.5 hryvnia, which are removed automatically when the first message is sent.

Accrual occurs automatically every month from 00:00 to 03:00, provided there is a sufficient amount of funds in the account. If the amount is insufficient, then daily accrual applies.
