Compact 3G and 4G routers from Tele2: what they are capable of and how to set them up

Tele2 signal transmitters in 4G and 3G formats are mobile or stationary devices that have a number of advantages compared to wireless modems. A wider range of capabilities and the ability to work with multiple devices, without using a PC or laptop, are the most important advantages of compact Tele2 routers. A user who wants to connect to the network using such a device must purchase the product itself, a SIM card, and connect to the selected Tele2 Internet tariff plan.

Which router for Tele2 to choose

The range of network equipment from Tele2 is modest: routers and routers from Upvel, ZTE and Huawei have long disappeared from the official website of the telecommunications operator. There are only branded models left, adapted for 3G and 4G, and the Wi Fi Keenetic router is still available, capable of operating at temperatures from 0 to 40 degrees, and equipped with powerful antennas that stably receive the signal even far from towers.

Note! As a result, at the time of choice, you have to start from the budget, the desired throughput, the manufacturer and the selected working scenario.

If the stability and quality of the received signal is important, then the same WiFi Keenetic 4G will not have any problems with the task: and all thanks to antennas, customizable operating modes (amplifier, adapter, access point) and serious technical characteristics that can cope even with unusual loads like 10-20 connected devices.

Note! If you need to save your budget, and at the same time save space on your desktop, then the Tele2 3G router is better than other options.
Cost – 1899 rubles*, throughput up to 42 Mbit/s and compact body. An alternative is more expensive and “faster”: Tele2 4g router - the design is the same, but the 100 Mbit/s bar will no longer be a problem.

Speed

I live in the very center of Kaluga. Yes, the city is provincial, but the 4G coverage is quite decent. In the center - even more so. However, the bad thing is that my apartment has very thick walls - from 50 to 100 cm. Of course, this negatively affects the signal.

For example, an iPhone 6 with a Tele2 SIM card inserted showed one stick and could only handle 3G. As soon as I approached the window, the smartphone immediately switched to LTE, and I measured the access speed (Speedtest application in the App Store). For the purity of the experiment, of course.

  • up to 4.4 Mbit/s download
  • up to 4.54 Mbit/s upload
  • ping 27 ms

Out of curiosity, I moved the SIM card to the iPhone X. Suddenly, the new device from Apple, together with Tele2, will please with more interesting speeds. Not really:

  • 4.10 Mbit/s download
  • 3.94 Mbit/s upload
  • ping 37 ms

Finally I inserted the SIM card into our modem. I ran the same test and got the following picture:

  • 9.97 Mbps download
  • 2.59 Mbps upload
  • ping 89

Yes, the ping has increased, but you can live with 90 milliseconds. Play CS: GO, of course, no, but for everything else this is more than enough.

I grabbed the modem and carried it into a room with meter-long walls. The measurement results are no longer so cheerful:

  • 4.5 Mbit/s download
  • 0.46 Mbit/s upload
  • ping 130 ms

The conclusion is simple. In the house, for more or less decent speeds, it is worth keeping the 4G modem from Tele2 on the window.

Fortunately, the Wi-Fi signal from a portable router scatters throughout the entire apartment. In my case it is 70 square meters.

By the way, the result of my street measurements turned out to be much more interesting.

Characteristics of the router from Tele2

Description of mobile Internet from Tele2: 3G and 4G frequencies

If choosing suitable network equipment is difficult without specific “numbers” and static information, then why not go through the important characteristics and operating parameters of routers and routers from Tele2:

  • Tele 2 3 G . Cost – 1899 rubles. Data transfer speed is up to 42 megabits per second, a 1,500 mAh battery (can cope with the load during a work week or similar time-intensive entertainment), the ability to connect up to 10 devices at a time and full support for mobile and Internet networks and standards (including including GSM with different frequencies and UMTS/HSPA+).
  • Tele 2 4 G . An analogue of the 3G model, but already a WiFi router with a 4g Tele2 SIM card with increased bandwidth and battery, and the ability to cope with searching for information on the network and interacting with entertainment resources many times faster. Problems will no longer arise when watching streaming broadcasts or launching game content: due to the increased speed of receiving and transmitting data, even Ping will decrease!
  • wifi Keenetic . No longer compact, but an extremely popular option for those who prefer even more functions for a very modest budget. Among the advantages are several operating modes (Tele2 4G Wi-Fi modem is capable of working as a router for L2TP and PPTP networks, is familiar with connecting to ADSL2+ and 3G-4G and is equipped with USB ports), 16 megabyte Flash memory for downloading firmware and the use of non-standard working algorithms. For example, some enthusiasts have already been able to unlock the restrictions set by the operator and have achieved the ability to use Keenetic as the same repeater.

Why do you need a portable router?

Tele2 offers a choice of two categories of devices for connecting to the network: USB modems and Wi-Fi 4G routers. To use them, you need an operator SIM card and an associated tariff.

A mobile hotspot (in other words, a Wi-Fi access point) can be useful for the following purposes:

  1. When connecting to the Internet via Wi-Fi, the smartphone uses less battery power, so its use is advisable instead of a standard 4G connection.
  2. Not all tariffs include inexpensive Internet and cheap calls. Using one SIM card for hotspot and another in your phone can save money.
  3. Some operating systems do not allow you to download large files over a 3G connection. In this case, a Wi-Fi distributor can save the situation.
  4. Many older devices do not have the ability to connect to a 4G network. Through a portable access point you can connect to any modern networks.
  5. If your home Internet provider malfunctions, it is advisable to use Wi-Fi 4G Home Router from Tele2 instead of a regular connection.
  6. Hotspot is the best way to install an access point in a car or in the country.

In addition to these advantages, routers from Tele2 have a number of other advantages. They may not be replaceable if the operator in your location does not provide a high quality network, for example, does not offer 4G access. It is also possible to purchase a portable Wi-Fi hotspot with a 3G connection.

How to choose a tariff for a router

The Tele2 Wi-Fi router is one of the network equipment that cannot do without specially adapted tariff options. Within Tele2, providing access to the network on routers and routers is covered by the “Internet for Devices” tariff with a monthly subscription fee and per-second billing.

Activation and connection of mobile Internet on Tele2

Possible variations:

  • 15 GB . Cost – 350 rubles per month. It is activated once in your personal account or on the official website.
  • 25 GB . Cost – 450 rubles per month. Suitable for those who spend a lot of time online and often access streaming services, including those from the Tele2 provider.
  • 40 GB . Cost – 600 rubles per month. Not unlimited, but the most capacious option, designed for those for whom every megabyte spent is important.

Note! Each of the tariffs assumes the availability of unlimited traffic at night (from 00:00 to 06:59) and the transfer of the remaining megabytes and gigabytes to the next month.

The provider offers to connect one of the listed variations depending on the tasks: if you cannot do without live broadcasts in Full HD and downloading files, then 40 gigabytes may not be enough. But for communication on the network, 15 is enough. But “Tele 2” 4G routers with unlimited tariffs still cannot be found - perhaps in the future the collection will be replenished with suitable offers, but for now we just have to wait.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Wi-Fi router from Tele2 meets all the parameters that apply to modern equipment. Its price does not exceed the cost of similar devices from other providers. Other advantages of the router:

  • distribution to a large number of devices;
  • Wi-Fi Tele2 does not require pulling a wire;
  • can be taken with you on trips;
  • synchronization with any type of computer equipment is available;
  • Wi-Fi Tele2 provides high data transfer speeds.

The disadvantages include the fact that the router does not consistently distribute the Internet throughout Russia. This indicator depends on the remoteness of settlements and coverage area.

Setting up a Tele2 mobile 4G Wi-Fi router

Why Tele2 mobile Internet does not work

Standard equipment - compact WiFi modem "Tele2" 4G, 3G or equipment from Keenetic, instructions with a warranty card (will help when contacting technical support or in situations where problems arise with speed, signal reception and unexpected technical problems). The operator also adds a USB cable and charger to the box with network equipment.

Before setting up, it is advisable to check the package contents, look at the instructions and check the functionality of the routers and modems (whether the indicators are lit, whether third-party signals appear, whether charging is in progress).

Then it remains to repeat the following procedure:

  • Pull the SIM card tray out of the case and insert the SIM card purchased at the sales office.
  • Only Tele2 SIM cards work with equipment from Tele2; the rest will not work.
  • Install the battery and close the back cover.
  • Read the manufacturer's advice and proceed to the next step - connecting to a PC or laptop via WiFi or USB cable.

Setting up and getting started

And now you have purchased a Tele2 SIM card and a wifi router, it’s time to get to work.

  • Remove the device from the box and remove the back protective cover;
  • Insert the SIM card into the special slot.

Please note that this Tele 2 mobile router only works with SIM cards from this operator. Using cards from other networks may cause damage.

  • Return the battery to its place and close the lid;
  • To turn on the device, hold down the round button in the center.

Now you can connect the gadget to a laptop or PC; this can be done using a USB cable (if the device’s battery is low) or via WI-FI (can serve up to 10 connected devices).

WI-FI laying

  • Find the router among the possible connected Wi-Fi devices through your computer.
  • Click Connect;
  • If a password is required, enter it (indicated on the package);
  • Now all that remains is to wait for the connection.

Via USB cable

  • Connect the router and PC using a cable;
  • Turn on your mobile router;
  • Your computer will find it and automatically install the necessary programs.

As you can see, setting up a modem is not difficult, and any user who at least intuitively understands how to handle equipment can handle it.

We examined in detail a device that allows you to access the Internet anywhere, while having a fairly good connection, allowing you to perform almost all the necessary tasks.

Tele2 routers: how to connect to a computer

Network equipment is devoid of screens and special “external” tools for preliminary configuration, and therefore you will have to act like this:

  • Turn on the router and activate Wi-Fi. From a computer or laptop, go to the section with wireless equipment and in the list of available networks find the name of the router selected in the online store. Next, click the “Connect” button and go to the web interface, where the “Login” section will appear, a field for entering your login and password, and the ability to select security parameters (home, work, cottage - depending on the scenario, the level of traffic security will change). All that remains is to act in accordance with emerging recommendations.
  • If there is no Wi-Fi module in your laptop or computer, then a USB cable will help with the preliminary setup: after connecting to the PC, a familiar interface will appear, a “Login” button and fields for entering information. In some cases, you will have to download special software from the official website. In this case, you no longer have to look into the browser - all settings, statistics and other information will appear in the program hidden in the tray in Windows.

Description of entering the configuration page:

  1. Make sure the router is successfully connected.
  2. Open a web browser on your computer.
  3. Enter one of the following addresses in the address bar: https://192.168.0.1 or https://ufl.ztedevise.com.
  4. Enter the password, which, like the network address, is on a sticker on the device. Usually it is specified by default (admin).
  5. Go to the configuration page.
  6. Go to the “Basic Settings” section in the “Wi-Fi” tab. Here you can change the network address and password.
  7. Click on “Apply”.

Nuances

The design and controls of the router are as simple as possible. There is one single button. Hold it for a long time and turn the device on/off. Press once and look at the current situation based on the signal and charge level.

Two indicator lights are responsible for the latter. If the “sticks” are lit green, then everything is fine with the network. If it's red, then the reception is bad. The same goes for the battery. And yes, LEDs are no different in their information content. On the other hand, why complicate everything?
