“+Internet” options from MTS: is it profitable?

But, as we know, great ideas can be implemented very poorly, and knowing mobile operators, I can say the following - they will not voluntarily benefit the subscriber. Why? Because benefit for the subscriber = financial loss for the company.

What does MTS offer us? Really favorable conditions or a complex scheme that will confuse subscribers and swindle them out of extra money? All calculations and parameters will be indicated for Moscow and the region, but subscribers from other regions should also familiarize themselves with the diagram - it is unlikely that the ratios will be wildly different.

First, let's look at the “+Internet” options

These options apply to tariffs with Internet packages: Smart Mini, Smart, Smart Unlimited, Smart TOP, as well as their archived versions. Smart Mini +3 GB: 350 minutes, 350 SMS and 4 GB of Internet for 704 rubles per month. It is more profitable to switch to the Smart tariff and get 550 minutes, 550 SMS and 5 GB for 500 rubles per month. Good start, right?

Smart Mini + 10 GB: 350 minutes, 350 SMS and 11 GB of Internet for 886 rubles per month. It’s more profitable to switch to the Smart Unlimited tariff and get 350 minutes, 350 SMS and 10 GB for 550 rubles per month. There is also a Hype tariff with 100 minutes, 200 SMS and 7 GB (+ unlimited services) for 500 rubles per month.

Smart + 5 GB: 550 minutes, 550 SMS and 10 GB for 895 rubles per month. MTS has too much of a difference between its average and top tariffs, so it’s hard to compare. Let's contact the Beeline operator. Tariff “All 3”: 1200 minutes, 500 SMS and 10 GB (if you pay a month in advance, then 20 GB) for 900 rubles per month. What does Megafon have? “Turn on. Watch” tariff: 1200 minutes, 0 SMS, 16 GB of Internet + unlimited instant messengers, social networks and YouTube for 950 rubles per month, you can also connect unlimited SMS for 50 rubles per month. If we take exclusively MTS, then the “+Internet” option may seem profitable, but how do you compare with the tariffs of other operators?

Smart Unlimited + 5 GB: 350 minutes, 350 SMS, 15 GB of Internet for 945 rubles per month. Honestly, it’s very strange that Unlimited now needs options that increase the Internet package... Again, MTS has no analogues, let’s turn to Megafon. Let’s take the “Turn On. Look” tariff plan again: 1200 minutes, 0 SMS, 16 GB of Internet + unlimited instant messengers, social networks and YouTube for 950 rubles per month, you can also connect unlimited SMS for 50 rubles per month. But what if we compare the same “Turn on. Watch” with the Smart Unlimited + 20 GB tariff? What is better, 30 GB of Internet or 16 GB of Internet + a bunch of unlims? On MTS you can connect to “Vseti” for 4 rubles per day, but there is no unlimited YouTube... I think that MTS lost here too, and Smart Unlimited + 20 GB is even more expensive. We connect unlimited SMS on Megafon for 50 rubles per month, and Unlimited +20 also loses by SMS and by minutes. Complete destruction.

Here, to be honest, there is no desire to compare at all, since for 1950 rubles per month, I believe, it would be possible to make at least 30 GB of mobile Internet. And so it turns out that the tariff was initially deprived. Other mobile operators do not have tariff plans with similar Internet packages, they only have special conditions - you can get 30 GB from Beeline (if you pay a month in advance). Megafon has, for example, “Turn on.Premium” - it’s more expensive, but cooler than Smart TOP with any option: only 20 GB, but just a lot of unlimited services.

conclusions

Perhaps I’m wrong somewhere, but it seems to me that the “+Internet” options are extremely unprofitable for MTS subscribers. Connecting to minimum packages (+3 and +5 GB) increases the subscription fee quite significantly, which leads to the fact that there are better tariffs. Connecting the maximum packages (+10 and +20 GB) leads to a significant increase in the subscription fee, and there are practically no analogues to the result. But this does not make connecting options profitable.

Pay attention, for example, to the “Hype” tariff. There are a bunch of unlimited services and 7 GB in reserve (for other traffic sources). Yes, there is an extremely small package of minutes, but when can you manage to do everything? Other operators also have interesting tariff plans. For example, “Turn on. Watch” provides unlimited access to a bunch of services, has impressive packages of minutes and Internet - for 950 rubles per month. And MTS’s “+Internet” options of 10 and 20 GB cost 486 and 608 rubles, respectively. This does not include the tariff plan.

What about the Hype tariff, by the way? You can also connect “+Internet” to it. And this, I think, is generally a transfer of money. A bunch of unlimited services, including YouTube and Twitch + 7 GB on top. Question: where to spend traffic? Watch movies online from your phone every day? Although, perhaps someone really needs it...

The only point is that MTS writes in its news: “it is not necessary to change the tariff by overpaying for unnecessary minutes and SMS. Pay only for additional internet.” In some situations, the overpayment is just for additional Internet! And it’s better to switch to another tariff. And subscribers of archived Unlimited services will probably have a good laugh at all of this (until they are forcibly switched to another tariff).

How to switch to a non-stop tariff on MTS now? It has been officially closed since March 27, 2018. What does this mean for subscribers?

• Customers will not be able to enroll in the plan.

• Subscribers who managed to join the program can continue to use it.
• The possibility of adjusting the conditions in the future cannot be ruled out.
• After a few years, the company may completely close the program and transfer the remaining subscribers to another tariff.

There is no hope that the proposal will be revived. The company constantly creates programs and updates the line. Therefore, it is necessary to choose a different solution.

You can find out the remaining gigabytes and minutes in one of the most convenient ways:

• Through the personal account of an MTS subscriber.
• Via an application for IOS or Android.
• Via the command *100*1# and *100*2#, *107#, *111# and *111*217#.
• By sending an SMS with a question mark to the short number 5340.
• Through a personal visit to the official MTS showroom.

You can also find out the remaining traffic and minutes by calling the operator at 0890. But an increasing number of users stop using this option due to the long waiting time for the operator to respond.

How to disable Plus Internet?

The service does not have a specific validity period - it will work from the day it is connected until it is disconnected or the subscriber changes his tariff plan.

You can independently disable the MTS “+Internet” option in your Personal Account, in the mobile application, or by sending a USSD request. The command to disable depends on the previously connected type of service:

• 3 GB: *111*1417*2#
• 5 GB: *111*1517*2#
• 10 GB: *111*1617*2#
• 20 GB: *111*1817*2#

How to activate the Smart tariff

You can activate the “Smart” tariff for existing MTS subscribers using one of the following methods:

• Using the My MTS application.
• Using the short command *111*1024*1#.

For MTS subscribers, the cost of switching to a tariff plan will be free. But only if the option package has not been changed over the past month. If this condition is not met, the cost of the transition will be 150 rubles.

For future MTS subscribers or for subscribers of other operators who want to connect to a Smart tariff while maintaining their number, there is only one option for purchasing a package of options - a personal visit to a communication salon.
