MegaFon recently launched a new service, MegaFon Autocontrol. But few people know that we took a direct part in the project. All “hardware” parts are developed and manufactured by RNT. The service is currently offered in test mode in the Moscow region. Let us briefly recall what it is. Essentially, this is a personal transport monitoring service that includes a data transfer tariff, a WEB service for viewing this data on an electronic map, and the device itself - a car GPS/GSM tracker, preconfigured to work with MegaFon's WEB service. The user does not need to worry about settings, about installing equipment on the car (it is as simple as possible), about finding a suitable mapping service where he could view points and tracks of the location and movement of the car, about how much GPRS traffic it will consume and how much it will will cost - all this has already been thought through by MegaFon and RNT specialists.
The tracker itself does not require a wired connection, and it has a powerful magnet that allows it to stick securely to any metal surface, such as under the hood of a car. But since all the antennas are built-in, the GPS receiver may not receive the signal well under the hood, so it is advisable to experiment with the location of the tracker, try it in the cabin, in the trunk. MegaFon recommends installing the tracker behind the dashboard, under the rear parcel shelf or under the hood, as close to the windshield as possible. It all depends on the specifics of operation, but it is advisable that it is not very far from the car outlet, since the unit needs to be periodically recharged, for which the kit includes a charger from the cigarette lighter, as well as a set of wires with terminals for connecting directly to a 12V battery car. In security mode, it reports to the server information about the events that happen to it at the moment of their occurrence. This is especially true for accelerometer events - impact and start of movement. After this, the tracker exits the security mode and can transmit information about events no longer instantly, but in blocks as they accumulate. The server, having received information from a device in security mode that some event has happened to it, automatically notifies the owner about this to his main telephone number (it is reported when the tracker is registered in the system). This can be done either by SMS or by phone call to the subscriber's number. In general, the functionality of the device and WEB service is quite simple, but that’s not bad. After all, the service is designed for mass users, and working with it should be as simple and understandable as possible for everyone.
