MTS, new Smart mini

An unexpected change to the popular Smart mini tariff for the intranet.
We added a package of 200 minutes for all local and intercity, and increased the Internet package from 0.5 to 1 GB. And they sharply cut off free calls to regional MTS. The subscription fee remains the same, 200 rubles. per month (300 rubles with the option “Everywhere at home Smart”). The first acquaintance with the description of the changes led to delight: wow, what a gift! They just took it and “for no reason” returned the parameters of spring 2014, and also added 200 minutes. A careful study was a little sobering, and then an understanding came: the new version of the tariff was completely reformatted. This is not the old Smart mini, which has become better in some ways and worse in others, no. Now this is a fundamentally different tariff, aimed at a completely different model of service consumption. Already developed models for using the old Smart mini will not work here, keep in mind. And carefully evaluate your habits/needs before switching, there is no turning back.

Dot the i's

Offhand, the improvement is obvious and, I would say, radical. Taking into account the free transition (if more than 30 days have passed since the date of the previous tariff change), switching from the previous Smart mini is definitely worth it for many scenarios. If you used the previous Smart mini only for calls within your home network, you will now receive twice as much Internet traffic in the package. If you called local numbers of other networks, you can now save up to 300 rubles on such calls. per month. The price for intercity connections to other networks has increased from 10 to 14 rubles/min, this is a minus. But this minus is fully compensated by the fact that the 200-minute package that appeared in the new version also applies to all networks in Russia. So, with a small number of calls, the minus of the new tariff may turn out to be a plus due to the properties of the new package.

But the second, unobvious minus already makes us think seriously. The old version of Smart mini declared free calls to MTS in your region and MTS-Russia. A careful study of the description revealed a limit on free calls to MTS-Russia, a maximum of 1,000 minutes per month. But still not bad. In the new version, all calls, including all local, all intercity and all calls to MTS-Russia, are deducted from the 200 minute package. Above the package - 1.5 rubles/min for local and MTS-Russia too. Total: those who called MTS regional numbers and chatted for free for 1,000 minutes a month will experience severe disappointment. From the previous 1,000 minutes for long-distance travel within the network, they will be left with an unspent stub of the 200-minute package.

The bottom line is a completely different user profile. The previous version of the tariff was “tailored” for unlimited voice communication within the network, including intranet long-distance communication (regional MTS). And he earned money in addition to the MTS subscriber on other paid calls and additional paid Internet packages. Now they have “issued” a package of 200 free minutes, which is spent on everything, including on the local intranet and any intercity. And it gets used up very quickly. And after the package is exhausted, all calls (except for the local intranet) become paid, including calls to regional MTS. I'm not saying this is good or bad, it's just a completely different principle. Which requires reflection, and not a thoughtless switch to a “much better” tariff.

By default, in the Smart mini tariff, connected for 0.9 rubles/day, that is, in fact, the minimum subscription fee is 227 rubles/month. But “They called you” can be turned off, so 200 rubles. in the description are correct.

Let me also remind you: you can connect to the Smart mini tariff with a Moscow city number, the subscription fee in this case will be 700 rubles/month. I agree, it's not cheap. But remember the price tags two or three years ago.

Comparing what was/was

"Smart mini basic"

A month and a half ago I wrote about this special tariff for “defectors” from other networks, but now a description of this phenomenon has appeared on the website, you can find it here. At the same time, let’s remember, because there are more and more people moving back and forth via MNP.

A SIM card with this “Smart Basic” is issued to subscribers coming to MTS via MNP, along with instructions to top up the balance by at least 220 rubles, in this case the “Basic” Smart turns into a regular Smart mini. Sometimes they forget to warn, sometimes they confuse the replenishment amount, announcing 200 instead of 220 rubles. Even more often, the future MTS subscriber himself forgets. In these cases, everything is charged at the “basic” rates: 2 rubles/min for any local call and 9.9 rubles. per megabyte of Internet traffic. Until the balance is replenished with the required 220 rubles. So, it’s better not to forget and top up right away so that it doesn’t hurt later.

Summary

Those who do not call or rarely call MTS regional numbers will definitely like the new version of the Smart mini tariff. More traffic, a package of minutes appeared. Those who don’t call other cities and don’t travel around Mother Russia will also like it. I would not advise those who frequently make long-distance calls and travel around the country to switch to the new tariff: in its latest edition, Smart mini has become an attractive, but purely local offer for the metropolitan couch potato.

The tariff has acquired the features of a “junior”, budget package tariff. In which, in addition to the package, everything except voice on the local network is given for separate money. And until the package is used up, even local calls within the network are deducted from the package. In its minimum configuration ("You've been called" and "Smart at home everywhere" are disabled), the tariff for a small 200 rubles/month gives 200 minutes for any calls from home in Russia, 1 GB of Internet and 50 local SMS. Great package for the money. For relatively infrequent trips around the country, you can attach the “Smart Everywhere at Home” option for 300-327 rubles. subscribers will receive an approximate analogue of a regular Smart, but with smaller packages.

Finally, instead of the tariff for frequent calls to regional MTS, which has now “dropped out” from the “Smart” line, I would recommend the “Super MTS” tariff with the option “Call for free to MTS Russia 100”.

UPDATE

About the “fine print” . I confess that I did not notice the important change that appeared in the new version of the tariff. Just one tiny number at the end of a long “sheet” of notes on the third page of small text.

In the new Smart mini, the Internet package was doubled (from 0.5 to 1 GB), this was written about in the news and will certainly be clearly displayed in advertising. At the same time, they also exactly doubled the rounding threshold for each Internet session, from the previous 100 to 200 KB. This means accelerated traffic consumption: short Internet access will now be deducted from the package in portions of not 100, but 200 KB. Of course, they “forgot” to write about this in the news and it won’t appear in advertising either. On average, on smartphones, the actual increase in the package will be from 0.5 to 0.75 GB. It’s almost like if a store held a promotion to sell a liter bottle for the price of half a liter, but the vodka in the liter bottle was diluted by a quarter with water.

About mysterious “quotas” . Abstruse formulations about dividing traffic into “quotas” are hotly discussed, quote:

“The Internet traffic used by the subscriber is divided into single quotas of 1000 KB. If you start consuming a unit quota in the EDGE, 2G or 3G network and subsequently move within this quota to the 4G network, the quota is considered consumed in the EDGE, 2G or 3G network. And vice versa, if you start consuming a unit quota in the 4G network and subsequently move within this quota to the EDGE, 2G or 3G network, the quota is considered consumed in the 4G network.”

There is no catch here; it has to do with the announced unlimited use of the 4G network until January 31, 2021. When moving from 4G to 2/3 G and back, free/paid traffic is taken into account in 1 MB chunks, this is normal and has nothing to do with session rounding. Most likely, the accounting scheme in the Beeline promotion is exactly the same, they just didn’t fool people’s heads in the descriptions.

Tariff "Smart 022015" for MTS - description

The offer in question is designed for people who spend a lot of time online. Packages of minutes and SMS are also provided. This solution will be beneficial not only for Internet lovers, but also for sociable users.

This plan is part of a special system - MTS Bonus. When you top up your balance, points are added to your additional account. The calculation is carried out according to the scheme - 3 rubles = 1bb. How to activate MTS Smart tariff 022015

Today it is no longer possible to connect to the Smart tariff 022015 MTS. The plan is in the archives, but it still functions today. Users who managed to activate the offer before November 2021 can also apply for those who managed to activate it before November 2021. Previously you could connect:

• through a visit to the office, where employees had to present a passport;
• through your personal account on the website or application;
