Mobile Internet in Thailand 2021 - where to buy DTAC SIM cards, tariffs

Nowadays, most tourists from the former USSR, upon arrival in Thailand, try to get a local SIM card for calling home and surfing the Internet.

Although some tourists don’t bother and get by quite comfortably with extortionate roaming calls. It’s no joke, but if you take the big three Russian operators, plus one small but honest one, then pure calls (without all sorts of additional options) from Thailand to the Russian Federation do not cost a lot, but quite significant money.

MTS asks for 115 rubles per minute of call for incoming and outgoing calls, Beeline showed off and when trying to make a call in roaming, it automatically connects the subscriber to a package of 20 minutes for 200 rubles (excluding some countries in which 1 minute will cost 200 rubles), Megafon wants 129 rubles and Tele2 is just beyond humane and asks for 35 rubles per minute. I generally keep quiet about Internet tariffs, because they are brutal.

Whether or not to use roaming on vacation is something everyone decides for themselves, but I’ll tell you what the Thai cellular market offers.

Cellular operators in Thailand

So, we present to you the big three Thai mobile operators!

  • AIS (https://www.ais.co.th/en/)
  • DTAC (https://www.dtac.co.th/en/home.html)
  • True Mobile (https://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/?ln=en)

The leader of this trio is DTAC. Nowadays, in fact, there is no difference in price and quality of service among the three operators; they differ mainly in different goodies, options and promotions.

Internet and mobile communications in Thailand

Additional Information

If a client has difficulties in using a SIM card, interruptions in communication or questions about tariffs, for additional information and advice they should contact either the office of the mobile service provider or through the feedback form in the user’s personal account.

Traveling outside the country will no longer surprise anyone. Many people travel abroad on vacation, to visit or for work matters. While on a trip, many people continue to use their cell phone without changing the number and remaining accessible to their friends. This opportunity exists thanks to roaming provided by the mobile operator.

The roaming service is activated automatically when the SIM card is activated and you can safely use the connection while outside the country. However, in order not to get into an unpleasant situation and not be left without communication in a foreign country, you need to know not only the basic nuances of roaming and tariffs, but also how you can make calls while roaming abroad cheaper. Then, unpleasant surprises can be avoided.

Where to buy a SIM card

Upon arrival in Thailand, you can buy a SIM card as soon as you step off the plane. There are offices of all three operators at the airports (I won’t say about the others, but there are definitely ones in Suvarnabhumi). Prices for SIM cards at the airport are usually 299 and 599 bows, most likely these will be TOURIST SIMs, which already include traffic and a certain number of calls. Please note that the connected packages have a validity period of 8 to 15 days, which is quite enough for a typical vacation.

You can buy a SIM card in Thailand in almost every 7eleven, Family Mart or Tesco Lotus supermarket. Prices in stores start from 49 baht per SIM card.

You can connect to the operator in the office of that same operator; they are usually scattered around the city and often nest in large shopping centers.

In fact, let’s say, in Pattaya you can buy a SIM card from the operator you need on every corner; along the streets there are sellers of all sorts of small things like chargers, cords and adapters. So they usually have darkness.

There is also an option from the Dtac operator - you can order a SIM card in advance and it will be delivered to you directly to Suvarnabhumi Airport. You can order a SIM card with delivery here: https://www.dtac.co.th/ru/prepaid/products/tourist-sim.html (page in Russian).

Beeline roaming in Thailand in 2021

In 2021, for those who like to vacation abroad, the operator offers Beeline roaming in Thailand:

  • daily minutes;
  • messages (economical cost of SMS);
  • Internet;
  • the ability to pay only when used;
  • guarantee against overpayments;
  • no additional connection difficulties.

The mobile operator has prepared a wide range of tariffs for customers for traveling abroad, with different combinations and number of services, respectively, they are within different price categories. The opportunity to independently choose is given to consumers in order to make the use of cellular communications abroad convenient and accessible to a larger number of our citizens.

Which SIM card to take and which operator is better

What is important here is the purpose of the purchase and the desire or not to bother with tariffs and options. If you come to sunbathe for a week or two, eat fruit and not worry about anything at all, then take a SIM card at the airport for 300 or 600 baht and relax in peace.

The difference in tariffs is minimal, that is, for this money you will receive a SIM card with an Internet and call package under approximately the same conditions for all operators. The only point noted is that the DTAC card does not need to be activated, insert it into the smartphone and you’re done. To activate the True Mobile card, you need to dial 9302 and the call button or #110# . We recover the AIS card in this way: dial 900120, press call .

If you don’t want to spend money on the packages that are offered to you, you can simply buy a SIM card for 49 baht and connect the necessary options yourself (more on them below). Since the summer of 2015, connection is made only if you have a passport. Street vendors, of course, are unlikely to have such demands.

Getting mobile internet from Dtac

Where to buy a DTAC SIM card in Thailand

My advice to you is to take a SIM card immediately at the airport upon arrival at the Bangkok/Phuket/Krabi airport, so you don’t have to look for it later! Moreover, you can order a very free tariff in advance and your SIM card will be waiting for you.

  1. Buy a local Thai SIM card online in advance on the Klook website and get mobile internet for 8 days in 144 baht instead of 299 baht. Your SIM card will be waiting for you right at the airport at the Klook/Dtac kiosk. This is just a gift, you won’t find these prices anywhere else. The tariff is more than enough for instant messengers, website browsing, google maps, etc. Here are detailed instructions just in case.

    Order a DTAC SIM card 2 times cheaper →

  2. Bangkok and Phuket airport. At the exit from the baggage claim area there are counters of Thai operators. Buy a SIM card and one of the tariffs offered there. If the packages are not suitable, then ask for a SIM card only for 49 baht. Then connect the package yourself. But keep in mind that you will leave the airport without the Internet. It’s better to take at least from point 1. About the packages below.
  3. Minimarkets 7-eleven or Family Mart. Come and say: DTAC SIM or DTAC SIM CARD (pronounced “dItak”). Sometimes you can also see or hear the phrase Dtac Happy or simply Happy, it’s the same thing, it’s just that the SIM cards that are sold to tourists are under the Happy brand. The disadvantages of this method are that DTAC SIM cards are not always available there and you may have to go to several stores.
  4. Dtac offices. Found in shopping centers and in shops selling phones/chargers/wires.

The envelope with the SIM card will immediately contain a regular SIM card + Micro + Nano. The required one, micro or Nano, is squeezed out of a regular SIM card. The instructions for using the SIM card (comes with the SIM card) sometimes contain Russian. Although you don't need to do anything there.

Universal SIM cards for travel →

As an option, do not buy a local Thai SIM card and travel to many countries with universal travel SIM cards. In Thailand, the cost is more expensive than on a local one, but if you need little traffic, then a travel SIM card will be more profitable.

Envelope and DTAC SIM card of all sizes

How much does a SIM card cost and tariffs

The Thai SIM card itself without the Internet costs 49 baht and 15 baht will already be in your account. There are different SIM cards with different names, but if you don’t bother (you’re not going to make a lot of calls and you’re not interested in promotions), then it doesn’t matter which one you take. You can see for yourself what SIM cards are available on the official website in the Prepaid/SIMs section.

7-eleven usually sells SIM cards with already connected Internet packages, such as Happy Tourist SIM (for 299 baht or 599 baht). And similar SIM cards will be offered to you at the airport. Nobody bothers you to buy one, exhaust the package, disconnect it and connect another one. But it’s better to take a SIM card for 49 baht without a package.

In a separate post, I wrote about roaming, call rates and special codes to make it cheaper to call from a Thai SIM card to Russia.

Documents for purchasing SIM

  • Only a foreign passport.

From July 31, 2015, all Thai SIM cards must be registered with their operators. Previously, SIM cards in Thailand were sold freely and no documents were required when purchasing them.

To purchase, you need a foreign passport and that’s it, no filling out forms. The SIM card will be registered by the seller, either at the Dtac point of sale or at 7-eleven. The whole procedure takes no more than 5 minutes. One passport is enough to register several SIM cards.

Tariffs with Gigabyte limit

Please note that the prices for packages are indicated without VAT, that is, 7% must be added to this price, and this is the amount that will be debited from your account.

I said above that you don’t have to connect Internet packages at the airport, but buy only a SIM for 49 baht. So, you will be offered tariffs there that are a little more expensive than on the official website. Better book in advance via Klook.

And below I have a table of tariffs from the DTAC website (traffic packages). They are limited to a certain amount of traffic, whichever you buy, you will have. After exceeding the specified number of gigabytes, the speed is severely limited. Here in Russia too. Look at the next section, there is a slightly different principle - limiting the amount of traffic and speed.

PriceTrafficCode
29 baht per day1GB**104*882*9#
99 baht per week2GB**104*342*9#
149 baht per week5GB**104*315*9#
199 baht per month1GB***104*349*9#
299 baht per month5GB**104*325*9#
499 baht per month10GB**104*320*9#

* The maximum speed is 100 Mbps, and after exceeding the traffic volume, the speed is limited to 64 Kbps. ** Maximum speed is 100 Mbps, and after exceeding the traffic volume, the speed is limited to 128 Kbps. These restrictions are such that it is impossible to use the Internet.

Full information about all packages with a certain number of gigabytes is available on the Dtac website in the Prepaid/Add-on Packages/NEW section! Super Max-Net.

You can also look at the range of Prepaid/Add-on Packages/OK! Net with simultaneous limitation of the number of gigabytes and speed. Such tariffs are cheaper, but their speed is limited to 384Kbps - 10 Mbps.

Mobile Internet speed in Thailand can be even higher

Unlimited tariffs from DTAC

All unlimited plans have a speed limit. That is, you will need to choose how many days this package will be valid and what speed you will have. If you need video calls, youtube, then it is better to take from 4 Mbps, otherwise it will slow down. I would not consider tariffs with 256 Kbps at all. Torrents are prohibited.

Now on the official website there is only this page, and there you need the line of unlimited Net No Limit tariffs. There are no USSD codes for them, but the package can be activated by entering your phone number.

In 2021, DTAC changed the line of unlimited packages and hid the codes for them. Below, just in case, is a sign with the old tariff activation codes, I think they still work. Some of them are better value than new ones. But we need to compare, of course, they might change something again.

PriceSpeedCode

Tariffs and costs

There are a lot of tariffs and I won’t be able to describe everything here, in fact, the price of calls for all networks in Tai is approximately the same, you can reduce the cost in various ways with discounts, packages and special tariffs.

The easiest way is to get acquainted with the tariffs on the operator’s websites, of course there is confusion there, but you haven’t understood Vietnamese tariffs yet

Internet in Thailand

Nowadays, mobile Internet in Thailand does not raise any complaints at all. In large cities there is 4G Internet, quite fast, I must say. You can buy a travel SIM card with an included Internet package or connect the one you need yourself using codes or your personal account on the operator’s website. Actually, more about the second option below.

Internet and mobile communications in Thailand

If everything is more or less clear with the Internet in a hotel, you’ve got the password for the network and you’re enjoying yourself, then you’ll have to be a little confused with your mobile phone.

Mobile Internet in Thailand is presented mainly in the form of packages of a certain size, each with its own validity period. Of course, you can simply spend money from your balance and pay for every meter of Internet, but why such wastefulness if there are packages!? Until recently, there was no unlimited Internet in Thailand as such.

Now operators have a similar offer.

DTAC

So let's start with DTAC as the frontrunner.

For example, the Internet “week” is presented in the following variations

  • 512 kb/s – costs 100 baht/week, connection code *104*348*9#
  • 1 Mb/s – costs 100 baht/week, connection code *104*378*9#
  • 4 Mb/s – costs 150 baht/week, connection code *104*388*9#
  • 10 Mb/s – costs 199 baht/week, connection code *104*398*9#

Internet for a month is also presented, there are offers even for a day. More details here: https://www.dtac.co.th/en/prepaid/products/net-no-limit.html

There are also all kinds of unlimited tariffs: https://www.dtac.co.th/en/prepaid/products/go-no-limit.html

In general, their website is quite tolerable, if you look through it with the translator turned on, you can quite figure out what and how.

True Move

The True Move operator has opened his arms on this page: https://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/upgrade_option/category/data/prepaid?ln=en

There are some non-stop offers, but vague doubts arise. We used one of these offers purely to check mail; traffic was, naturally, limited. We spent a long time understanding the intricacies of their packages and sachets (we needed a package for a day with minimal traffic, like we needed it - we connected it), in the end we connected it almost at random and guessed what we needed. Understand these Thais, maybe they managed to screw up some kind of unlimited

AIS

And the AIS operator closes. It too has a couple of unlimited offers among the packages offered.

512 kb/s for a week costs only 89 baht, 1 mb/s for a week costs 99 baht, 4 mb/s for a week costs 150 baht. You can connect them directly on the website, after some dancing with a tambourine, by sending an SMS to your phone and then entering the code on the website. In general, not everything is so scary, although at first it’s not clear at all.

There seems to be unlimited for a month, here - https://m.ais.co.th/ontop-package, but here it is not - https://www.ais.co.th/package/package.html? package=1.

But knowing the Thais, you shouldn’t be too surprised. It's not on the site, but it's there! Because the information on the site may turn out to be “slightly” not relevant, because sabai and all that

How to make profitable calls abroad

Traveling with the product “Beeline's Most Profitable Roaming” will become twice as cheap. The option is suitable for traveling to neighboring countries, Europe and other popular countries:

Connect to Beeline numbers - *110*131#, disconnect - *110*130#. If a person travels to Belize, Burundi, Ghana, Nicaragua, Chad, etc. (60 in total), then the tariff layout is slightly different.

ConditionsPrice
Communication in any direction100 rub./min.
Beeline Inbox25 rub./min.
Sending an SMS message30 rub./pcs.

Tanzania, Morocco, Tunisia, China and Argentina provide 40 MB200 rub.

If a Beeline client likes to vacation abroad in exotic countries, then without additional subscriptions, roaming will cost 200 rubles. per minute of communication. Therefore, it is recommended to activate, where minute billing will cost 30 rubles. Activation - *110*201#, deactivation - *110*201#.

The option is adapted for prepaid and postpaid systems.

How to top up your account

The first way is to go to 7eleven or Family Mart and ask them to deposit the required amount into your account. You name the amount, enter the number into the terminal and you’re done. We enter the number as it is written on the envelope with the SIM card.

We had a couple of cases when 7eleven refused to top up our account in an amount less than 100 baht, which is unclear, but inconvenient. We always used local SIM cards for rare local calls and a little internet sometimes on the road, so we mainly topped up one SIM card with small amounts.

You can also buy a money card there - this is a regular payment card (there used to be such cards in Russia; in Asia they somehow became established and are still in circulation). Cards come in 100, 200, 500 baht. Everything is simple there, the replenishment process is described on the map. We erase the protective field on the back of the card, underneath it is the code, enter the combination on the smartphone and you’re done, the money arrives instantly.

It is also possible to top up your account with a bank card on the operator’s website. We checked with the True Mobile operator, it didn’t work out, the payment went through, but the money was not credited. I had to call the bank and cancel the payment. It seems like you can top up your account with electronic money on the Webmoney website or through an online exchanger, but we have not conducted such experiments.

Beeline tariffs in Thailand

Among the number of proposals, the following Beeline tariffs in Thailand in 2021 have been developed and are in demand:

  1. Line “All in one” and “ALL is mine!”.
  2. Special offer “Everything for 1800 + roaming”.
  3. Profitable and economical "Unlim" and "Super Unlim".
  4. Absolutely EVERYTHING and an option for Bi+.
  5. And also a profitable offer for tourists “The most profitable roaming”.

“All for 1800 + roaming”

Profitable calls not only for communication in international roaming, but also for communications throughout the country. In it you will find 15 GB of traffic throughout Russia - valid in several countries at once. After activation, the user receives a modern music addition to the smartphone - YouTube Music Premium for 6 months without payment. This gift will definitely interest lovers of high-quality modern tracks. The offer provides unlimited calls in the region of our own network and throughout Russia. As already mentioned, 15 GB of traffic is provided, which is valid for international roaming in popular countries. According to the conditions, 3000 minutes are provided per month for calls outside the home to any numbers. And 3000 messages both at home and while traveling. It is possible to send them without additional payment across Russia to any cellular network providers. All this is provided within the subscription fee of 1800 rubles per month. If the subscriber is already using another package, but is interested in the offer, the transition is not paid.

“All in one” line

The offer for mobile network consumers is named so for a reason, because it provides everything at once in one. When connecting “All in One”, the subscriber discovers the following options:

  • unlimited internet at home;
  • TV;
  • an application from developers, where more than 20 popular channels are already installed;
  • speed selection;
  • antivirus;
  • communication and communications at reduced prices;
  • high-quality coverage in the region, in the country and in roaming.

Line “EVERYTHING!”

In this case, users are also given YouTube Music Premium for six months of free use. There is another almost unique offer with the colorful name “Gigs for Steps”. It provides for the exchange of completed steps for gigabytes of high-speed network access. When connected, only 5 GB per month is provided. Calls to numbers of all operators in the subscriber’s home region, as well as calls to any operator - 200 preferential minutes. Messages are also provided; 300 of them are sent within the home region. The payment is 13.33 per day. “Beautiful room” included - free of charge.

"Unlim" and "Super Unlim"

Packages where you do not limit yourself in communication and traffic use. Throughout Russia, free unlimited Internet is one of the key advantages of the line. Calls throughout the country to your operator are 300 minutes, the same amount the client spends monthly on local numbers of any cellular network operators. After completion, the user pays 0.25 rubles for every 60 seconds of conversation until the package is renewed.

Absolutely EVERYTHING

In this case, the user does not deny himself anything:

  1. For 4 rubles every day, the subscriber enjoys unlimited high-speed access to the global network.
  2. In Russia, 30 GB of traffic per month.
  3. 5 thousand minutes for calls within Russia with all users of mobile operators.
  4. 300 messages within your home region to all mobile operators.
  5. At home and while traveling, incoming calls are free.
  6. After the benefits expire, calls within the country are free.

The complex of services, like others, provides the opportunity to use calls, traffic and messages. The subscription fee is 0 rubles.

First gigs

Every month the user receives 4 GB of traffic, 400 minutes for other subscribers, and 200 minutes on the network in the Russian Federation.

How long does a SIM card bought in Thailand last and how to renew it?

The purchased card has a validity period of approximately one to two months (depending on the cost of the card and the amount on the account). If you do not replenish it or extend its validity using special codes, it will simply stop working and the number will be put on sale.

Also, the validity period of the card increases slightly with each replenishment.

  • A TrueMobile SIM card can be extended in the following way: Dial the code on the phone: * 934 * number of days # call button , you can extend it for 30, 90 and 120 days. The cost is 2, 6 and 12 baht, respectively.
  • Renew a DTAC SIM card: Dial the code on your phone: * 113 * number of days # call button , you can extend it for 30, 90 and 120 days. The cost is 2, 6 and 12 baht, respectively. You can check your balance and expiration date by dialing *101# and the call button.
  • To be honest, I have no idea how to renew an AIS SIM card, if anyone knows, please write in the comments, we will be very grateful.

There is a catch when renewing DTAC and True Mobile SIM cards! If you spent less than 200 baht on communications or the period of use of the card is less than 90 days, then you can renew the SIM card only in one way, namely by replenishing the balance. Codes do not work under these conditions! Not only that, DTAC refused to extend the validity of the SIM card beyond 90 days.

Internet and mobile communications in Thailand

Tourist cards

Roaming in Thailand can be enjoyable and economical. To do this, you need to take care of communication means in advance and purchase a tourist SIM card. The most popular companies are SimTravel and GoodLine; they provide high-quality and, most importantly, cheap mobile communications. For tourists coming to Thailand, roaming with such an international tourist SIM card is an important condition for a good holiday. The cost of outgoing calls starts from 65 cents per minute, incoming calls are absolutely free, and forget about the subscription fee. A little advice for those who decide to purchase a tourist SIM card: no matter where you purchase it, ask the seller to test it. For example, call from this number to yours and vice versa, this way you will check its functionality and practice making calls from the new card.

More about countries

As already mentioned: different countries - different tariffs.

Roaming in Turkey

If you find yourself in Turkey for several days (it’s unlikely that you went there for work, right?), then for all incoming calls, as well as for outgoing calls to Turkey and Russia, you will pay 79 rubles per minute of conversation, without any discounts for the next minutes, as well as without a subscription fee.

Outgoing calls to all other countries will cost 129 rubles per minute. Receiving SMS, of course, is free, but sending them costs 25 rubles apiece.

Do not forget that large SMS can be divided into 2, 3 or more messages, you will pay for each according to the tariff.

If you use the Internet, 350 rubles will be debited from your account, and you will be given 70 MB for a day; for the next 70 MB you will have to pay the same 350 rubles (but the amount will not be debited automatically the second time). We hope that your hotel will have good internet.

Roaming in Egypt

A more remote resort is Egypt. Roaming prices are also a little more expensive. For minutes of any conversations 129 rubles. By the way, with the “around the world” option there are only 19.

One SMS costs 25 rubles, with the same option – 14. And 350 rubles for every 70 megabytes of Internet. Exactly the same tariffs when visiting China and Japan.

Europe

In many European countries, roaming rates from Megafon are the same as in Turkey. Don’t forget about the 25/50 minutes Europe and CIS options, they will help you save a lot when traveling around Europe, and you won’t have to count your losses for every minute of conversation. By the way, these options also apply in Turkey.

Roaming in the USA and Canada

In the USA and Canada, Internet and SMS prices are the same as elsewhere. But calls are much more expensive: 199 rubles per minute for outgoing or incoming calls. Here the options “around the world” and “whole world” will be most appropriate. The same conditions apply in Australia and New Zealand.

The situation is worst in remote countries with poorly developed infrastructure. For example, in Mongolia and Iraq, a minute of even incoming calls will cost 350 rubles. You can almost forget about mobile Internet there. Fortunately, these destinations are not popular among Russians.

CIS countries

In the CIS countries, roaming prices are different. The cheapest is in Kazakhstan. Here calls are only 39 rubles. In Abkhazia and Georgia, communication is expensive: 109 rubles per minute of conversation. However, for Abkhazia there is a special option “at home in Abkhazia”; for 30 rubles a day you can significantly reduce your communication costs while in this country.

Regarding international roaming, one cannot fail to mention Crimea. Although it is part of the Russian Federation, roaming exists there even for those tariffs on which it is not available throughout the rest of Russia. Prices, of course, are not as high as in international roaming: 10 rubles per minute of conversation, per megabyte of Internet, SMS - 5 rubles. There is also an option “Crimea”, which allows you to reduce the cost of calls. The daily fee for the option is 15 rubles.

Special options for some regions

Sometimes Megafon introduces options that are available only in one or several countries. Not so long ago, “unlimited Italy” functioned, which made it possible to profitably use the Internet in Italy. Today, among the special options, only “at home in Abkhazia” is available.

Before traveling abroad, do not forget to check if Megafon has introduced any special option for the country you are going to visit.

How to enable or disable roaming in Russia?

My country

Within your own country, activate the My Country service. It includes trips to any city in Russia. In which specific regions the option is valid, please check with the operator. At the moment, the service cannot be activated in the Republic of Crimea.

After activating the option you get many benefits:

  • 1st minute of incoming calls in roaming – 3 rubles;
  • 2nd and subsequent minutes of conversation – 0 rubles;
  • outgoing calls (within the Russian Federation) – 3 rubles per minute;
  • The cost of an SMS message within Russia is 3 rubles.

Signing up for a tariff plan is inexpensive - only 25 rubles. There is no subscription fee. There is no need to enable or disable roaming yourself – it turns on automatically when you leave your region, and turns off when you leave someone else’s.

For the initial connection, use the command *110*0021# and the call key. If you want to disable the package, dial *110*0020# and the call key.

Foreign roaming from Megafon

Megafon is a mobile operator with which roaming is very convenient. Flexible tariffs and a variety of services will allow you to spend a minimum of money on mobile communications, no matter where you are. And the website moscow.megafon.ru/roaming/world has all the information about roaming tariffs in each specific country. This will allow you to calculate approximately how much you will spend on communications for your entire trip, as well as select the most convenient package of services for you.

Rates for calls, SMS and internet abroad can vary greatly depending on the country in which you will be located. In most European countries, roaming is relatively inexpensive. Tariffs for Egypt and Turkey, popular among tourists, are also not very expensive. But for those who went to the USA, it will not be easy: for a minute of conversation you will have to pay almost 200 rubles (maybe in the USA the salaries are higher, but not by the same amount).

However, Megafon, in order to simplify the life of its customers and increase their loyalty, uses a variety of options that will help you spend as little money as possible on mobile communications during your travels (to save on something nice, one assumes). You just need to estimate how many minutes and megabytes you will need during your visit abroad, and then choose the most suitable option.

Questions from subscribers

What tariffs will apply in Bulgaria?

Incoming calls, as well as outgoing calls to Russian and Bulgarian numbers, will cost 49 rubles - not so expensive for roaming, but it still makes sense to activate the “25/50 minutes Europe and CIS” option. Outgoing calls to numbers in other countries - 129 rubles. For SMS - 25 rubles. Internet - 350 rubles for every 70 megabytes.

We are going to Cyprus, what roaming should we connect and what communication costs should we expect?

It all depends on how many calls you are going to make. If there is a lot - connect “25 minutes Europe and CIS”, if there is a lot - “50 minutes Europe and CIS”. Calls can be replaced with SMS, if only 100 SMS are enough for you, which will cost 790 rubles. Thus, for, say, a week’s vacation in Cyprus, you will pay no more than a thousand rubles for communications. This is in case you want to stay in touch. If during your entire vacation you make only a couple of random calls and send 2-3 SMS, then you don’t need to connect anything - in this case you will spend a maximum of 200-300 rubles on communications.

Mobile operators

There is no significant difference between Thai cellular operators; the main players in the communications market work at approximately the same prices. In the past, differences have existed, in particular there have been significant differences in service packages. Now subscribers are focused on the stability of communication, and not the cost of calls. The largest telecommunications company in Thailand is DTAC, it also has the most developed network and is able to provide high quality services.

True Movi has a smaller national coverage, so sometimes there may be connection interruptions. The operator is owned by Orange. The main focus is on tourists: there are a number of telephone numbers, calls to which are free and accessible even without money in the account, including the number of the tourist police. For calls to other numbers, for example, to the airport and hospital, you do not need to pay for the first 3 minutes of the call.

AIS is also inferior in coverage quality to DTAC. A distinctive feature of the company is that its services can be used under a contract and on an advance payment basis. For those tourists who decide to stay in Thailand for a short time, the second option is suitable, because under the contract, SIM cards are sold along with the phone.

An interesting feature of AIS is also the division of the country into communication zones. Calls within a zone are cheaper than calls to another zone. This applies not only to calls to AIS subscriber numbers. In addition, there are SIM cards designed for use only within a certain zone; their use in other zones is quite expensive.

The virtual operator is significantly inferior in popularity to other telecommunications companies. Its services are not in demand by tourists.

[guru] Yes. Only I always go to the service center and connect it (that is, in my city I go to the office) - you will receive an SMS that la-la, roaming will be activated upon arrival in any country. I don’t know if this applies to Thailand, but in Europe I used a wonderful tariff - that they would charge me 100 rubles a week, and an SMS would cost 5, instead of 20, I don’t remember about calls =).

Reply from A v

[guru] Of course not. But he must have a roaming agreement with some local operator. At prices that will make you cry over the bill...

[active] He takes it... but it goes crazy))) wow)) SMS for another 30 rubles. and calls in general... . The tour operator should give you a local SIM card upon arrival. Calls to Russia 3 rubles. per minute It's more of a freebie. so call local. (verified) Operator TRU MOVE (trow move) You can buy it yourself in small supermarkets. The seller will even help you activate))) Good luck))

There are several mobile phone companies operating in Thailand, but only three large ones are DTAC, True Move and AIS. Of the virtual operators in the kingdom, Telindus is represented; other services are unknown. In addition to telephone conversations, Thai companies provide mobile Internet support. Communications in the country are quite developed, coverage is available in all major cities and resort areas, but interruptions in the telecommunications network can be caused by frequent problems in the power supply system.
